As is the OP pointing out that the majority of newly elected WOC don't think that Pelosi is singling out "newly elected WOC."
Obviously, that really stings for some people who were looking for some comfirmation that Speaker Pelosi is as much a racist and misogynist as Trump.

It is sickening but some people here are dependable when it comes to telling others to sit down and shut up. I did not even look at who said it. Some are uncomfortable with big changes or anyone who would speak around the leadership or even disagree, heavens!! If they are female then it really brings it out. Again, I could go back and look but I do not know who said this. Maybe someone I cannot see anymore.
ehrnst
(32,640 posts)Not seeing that "here" at all.
Can you specify who said this "here?"
Because there are rules, and the OP remains, yes?
MuseRider
(34,111 posts)and don't care about the OP. I did not suggest it be removed if that is what you are talking about and I know the rules here as well as anyone, are you suggesting I did not follow them?
This was an opinion of mine, yours is different and I owe you no explanation. It is totally understandable by the people I was speaking with and they know what and who I was talking about. If I had wanted to spend the day convincing someone I would have posted that way.
I am not surprised you do not see it, we are worlds apart on many issues. I have no need to convince you of anything, there is not enough time and I really do not care to.
ehrnst
(32,640 posts)So why are you participating?
So does that mean you're afraid to answer the question about who you were talking about when you posted
" some people here re dependable when it comes to telling others to sit down and shut up."
Or are you saying now that it wasn't actualy based in fact, but in your feelings on the topic?
Just so we're clear - trying to justify avoiding owning up to a quantifiable and rather insulting statement you made about "people here on DU" by claming that "it's an opinion" isn't really something that lends credibility to one's statements. The idea that "your opinion" is somehow just as based in fact as anyone else's, and therefore you are exempt from actually backing it up with facts, is a fallacy I normally encounter when asking Trump supporters to back up their defence of his lies. When they don't have any - so they reduce all observations to "opinion" and therefore have the same basis in fact.
Sounds like I really hit the nail on the head.

(34,111 posts)I am always happy to see them working in different ways to accomplish the same leftward movement. I am not sure why we have to trash anyone who is working for the same movement just differently. There are an awful lot of people who support "The Squad" and are kept engaged by this kind of activism and there are people who appreciate the quiet, methodical movement of the quieter Dems. Why do we have to make this a fight? We need to forgive Dems who are activists in a different way than we might be. There is room for all and with that we have different supporters and more supporters. We should not let the R's define us as fighting, "cat fighting", not getting along. Why would anyone want to support the boring, lock step, undemocratic movement the R's have right now?
IMO they are all doing their jobs and in a damned fine manner. I like the out loud, confrontational attitudes and actions of "The Squad". I was/am an LGBTQ activist in the same town as the Phelps church, we had to be confrontational. There is a place for both don't you think?
Chemisse
(30,813 posts)Personally I'm not crazy about the confrontational approach on a daily basis, but so what? Diversity is great. It's our strength. I think this OP would be perfect if it recognized 13 newly elected women of color in Congress, not just nine.
MuseRider
(34,111 posts)except I do like the confrontational approach when it is needed and I personally think it is. Even if I did not being an older person, my sons respect it and it is what will get many younger people interested because many of them don't think anyone does care. I also think with the "isms" we absolutely have to stand up and shout "NO!". I understand the politics and strategy of Nancy Pelosi and am not against what she is doing but I AM against people who say we should just sit down and shut up and let her work her magic. There is a place for all of it. There is a need for all of it. Still, we are keeping Harry Reed's powder dry. I don't think this has proved out to be helpful.
I think all of this is the R's defining us as a party in disarray. Seriously, a party not in some kind of disarray (large or small) is a stagnant group of people who are not really trying to change the game by much. We are in such a place I think they are missing the point. Their tiny step approach for at least 40 years has kept us going backwards in a hurry. We have had a few good gains but the R's always take it apart and we really hear nothing about it. There are times I actually think our party is agreeing with what the R's do. That is being too quiet because they do not agree. They just do not want to look like we actually ever lose our cool. This is the time we should be leaving our cool splattered all over every wall. IMO
In politics disagreement and angling for your position and working in the public's view should be the way it is done. Blindly saying, "Whatever my leader says" gets us nothing but backwards movement. The R's are saying it now but they are still blowing their mouths off all over the place, agree with their leaders or not.
We need to not care what R's say and not listen to the people in our party who want us to just let them take care of it and vote for them.
Sorry for the rant. I have had a hot and busy and unpleasant morning and I just sat down and out it came. I will leave it but I so respect your thoughts on diversity, we need more approaches and I think we agree.

If you might outline them a specific and coherent manner, perhaps a real discussion would follow. You'd be surprised. The OP suggests that responding to this attack means they're not behaving in a "highly professional manner"
I realize everyone reading knows that but I don't think this smear thread should be allowed to just disappear.
In my opinion a big line has been crossed with this one and I don't want the OP to be able to pretend it didn't happen.
So I bump.

or surprising coming from this particular poster. But still shocking to me that someone could sink so low.
And they're still at it now. Even after the 'send her back' chant they still continue to attack.
And not only that...not only do they do it... they actually think it's funny. It's unbelievable to me.

(10,150 posts)Xochitl ran a great campaign here in NM and turned a long time republican seat blue. I can't say enough good things about her. Deb Haaland the other Native American woman elected in 2018 is my representative and also ran a very good campaign although it was our current governor Michelle Lujan Grisham who turned Albuquerque blue back in the 2012 election.

(7,681 posts)but someone else has been up and down the thread defending it in extremely aggressive fashion.
To the tune of at least 16 posts at this point. Why they choose to do that is anyone's guess.

It's a mystery.

(34,111 posts)I already blocked one in this thread.
Someone kind warned me a minute after I blocked. I think sometimes it is to get rid of the people here who don't do what they are told and follow the leader without questioning anything.
Or another choice I am not going to mention here. It really is a mystery!

It seems everyone knows what is in Georges head.
Maybe George implied what my GUESS is.
But, then, its just a guess.

(3,433 posts)It's not an unreasonable discussion, but the technique used - vague statement, provocative point, no clarification or further discussion from the OPer - leaves it to be simple trolling.
Dems trolling Dems.

No. Women NEED to shout out against Republicans who seek to oppress them. We should be encouraging women to speak their minds, not push to silence them.

(3,433 posts)To make a point that only really applies to the OPer, has already been made, has surely been seen by the OPer, is either
1) Being ignored, as will all bumps, or
2) Has been heard, and the person is ashamed to take ownership of a mistake
Not much left to gain from bumping and bumping. Other that to further the cause of the troll.
I suggest that it's strategically more useful to let it go away and put this valuable energy of your to good in the next round of conflict or to the broader fight against GOP collapse into Authoritarianism.
JMHO.
Fair point. Personally I think it crosses the line into something worse than mere trolling. but okay.
I'll just say option two is impossible because the capacity for that would have to exist. Which it clearly does not.

(145,288 posts)These are some interesting numbers https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/07/18/whats-behind-tensions-between-moderates-progressives-numbers-partly/?utm_term=.6524ae33cc32
You can use the Cook Partisan Voter Index to get a sense of this. The PVI calculates the partisan lean of a given district, relative to the country as a whole, by averaging together the differences between the presidential vote breakdown in the district vs. the nation as a whole in the past two elections.
Because Democrats won the majority by picking up lots of districts Trump carried in 2016, and lots of moderate, suburban and even a few rural districts, the PVI in most of those 43 districts tilts Republican. That is, those districts voted more Republican than the nation as a whole.....
Now lets take the members of the Squad. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezs New York district has a PVI of D+29. Ayanna Pressleys Massachusetts district has a PVI of D+14. Rashida Tlaibs Michigan district has a PVI of +32. And Ilhan Omars Minnesota district has a PVI of D+26. Those are very Democratic-leaning districts.
In Texas we flipped two GOP seats through hard work and running moderate candidates. If Democrats want to keep their majority, we need to keep these facts in mind
