Speaker Pelosi is showing support for our 4 brave Representatives by putting a resolution on the House floor condemning Trump's racist tweets. Republicans will be on record as being pro racist. The resolution is supposed to be brought to the House floor around 7 PM tonight. Speaker Pelosi is one shrewd lady, she is quoting Reagan in her resolution.
"Our Republican colleagues must join us in condemning the Presidents xenophobic tweets. Please join us in supporting a forthcoming resolution sponsored by Congressman Tom Malinowski, who was born abroad, and Congressman Jamie Raskin, along with other Democratic Members born abroad referencing President Ronald Reagan's last speech as President in which he said, "Thanks to each wave of new arrivals to this land of opportunity, we're a nation forever young, forever bursting with energy and new ideas, and always on the cutting edge, always leading the world to the next frontier
If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost."

Trump literally told 4 women of color to "go back where you came from" and this is the best we can muster? Some pabulum courtesy of Reagan, as if the 1980s GOP weren't just as racist but in a softer tone of voice? Did they think that was clever? Ugh

(3) strongly condemns President Donald Trumps racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color by saying that our fellow Americans who are immigrants, and those who may look to the President like immigrants, should go back to other countries, by referring to immigrants and asylum seekers as invaders, and by saying that Members of Congress who are immigrants (or those of our colleagues who are wrongly assumed to be immigrants) do not belong in Congress or in the United States of America.

It is also mostly about immigration, which is an important issue but it is NOT the animus behind those tweets at AOC and the other Congresswomen. Racism is. I mean, even on an issue so clear and stark as this one we cannot have a clear message. It is absolutely maddening. Meanwhile, Republicans now have an opening to portray this as a policy dispute about immigration and not about Trump's racism which is exactly what they are doing as we speak.

I 100% don't agree, but I think that will be most of their responses.

Walls went out of style with the Maginot Line not stopping the German invasion of France in 1940.
Black people are "stupid" and women, no matter the age, must do what the man says, even if it means submitting to rape. (whenever he tweets about somebody black, they almost always get called dumb or stupid or something like that)
He seems to be living in a idealized 1950s white America in his mind. Or, maybe the Roaring 20s.

AND FOR THE RECORD, REAGAN WASN'T RUNNING THINGS, HE WAS ALREADY HAVING MENTAL PROBLEMS WHEN HE WAS ELECTED.........IT WAS HIS ADMINISTRATION: HW BUSH, CHENEY, RUMSFELD, WOLFOWITZ, PEARL AND A HUNDRED OTHERS.
THAT ADMINISTRATION INITIATED HUNDREDS OF THINGS THAT GOT THE BALL ROLLING. THINGS THAT SCREWED US THEN, AND ARE STILL SCREWING US ROYAL. AFTER THE REPUBS GOT THAT TRIAL RUN UNDER THEIR BELTS, IT CONVINCED THEM THAT THEY COULD DOMINATE THE ENTIRE U.S. BY ROLLING OUT THEIR ENTIRE PROGRAM......THINK "PROJECT NEW AMERICAN CENTURY" 1997.....

Im fully aware that most of the disaster we are living through is due to Reagan successfully putting a genial face on cruel and damaging policy that has led to where we are today.
Thus, the final line, God curse his soul.

Yeah, she's a bit quick to say what's on her mind, but certainly no worse than Trump.
Trump should have been banned from Twitter for his racist tweet. It was a more severe violation of policy than my daughter's tweet.
But, you know, he has always been able to break the rules and get away with it.
The double standard of money, position, and power will always be given to people like Trump.

Religion, of any kind, has hampered human development for thousands of years.
Gods no more exist than dragons and elves and werewolves.
I will state again: bigotry, racism and misogyny are heavily rooted in religious teachings.
Those that are different are not welcome.
Those that do not submit are not welcome.
Those that do not bend to the will and interpretation of one man or one book are not welcome.

(4,192 posts)he had good speech writers. The man Reagan I could never imagine actually thinking those words himself. He did not demonstrate those ideals in his policies and actions. But they are true words nonetheless - each wave of immigrants is a renewal of the American spirit. That I can see firsthand where I live.

Reagan's statements and resulting policies are the foundation for everything from corporate prisons to trump's rise to power.
Reagan is the foundation that the modern Republican party is built apon.
By speaking of Reagan in positive terms you ask people to ignore the very real, longterm, harm he did.
