'Our squad': Women of color in House raise Trump's racist ire
"All in! "All in!" chanted the Philadelphia Convention Center crowd of progressive bloggers, as newly elected, outspoken women of color in Congress -- introduced as "Our Squad" -- strode onto the stage.
Three of the "Gentle ladies" of the House would be targeted two days later by President Donald Trump, in a racist, go-back-to-where-you came from tweet. He doubled down on Monday, charging that the House members "hate" their country.
There is nothing gentle about these "Gentle ladies."
"We're going to impeach the MF'er: Now worry," shouted Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., who spelled out the full obscenity earlier this year.
Of Trump, Rep. Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, D-Minn., a Somali refugee, declared "There is a constant pile of garbage that comes out of his mouth, and those who speak for him."
What are her constituents in Minneapolis looking for from their House member? "Abolish ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement): That is what my district sent me to do," Omar said.
Angry words venture far afield from reality.
Trump is apparently unaware that three out of his four targets were born and grew up in the United States. The fourth, Omar -- a particular object of Trump hate -- came to the U.S. as a girl and was raised here.
