By Josh FeldmanJul 16th, 2019, 3:15 pm
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said today he doesnt consider President Donald Trumps tweets racist, while making a point of saying its about time we lowered the temperature all across the board.
At one point, CNNs Manu Raju brought up his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, and asked, Youre married to an immigrant If someone were to say to her she should go back to her country because of her criticism of federal policies, wouldnt you consider that a racist attack?
McConnell said in response, The Secretary of Transportation came here at age 8, legally, not speaking a word of English, and has realized the American dream.
Raju again asked if Trumps comments were racist. McConnell instead talked about legal immigration and the fulfilling of the American dream.

Give us an answer to Raju's question, Mitch. Someone says to your lovely wife that she should go back to her country: is that a racist attack? You say she's here legally. Well so did Rep. Omar, and Trump made that very despicable comment to her. What if Trump said that about Elaine (if that is her real name)?
What a pathetic little man Mitch McConnell is.

That's what that look on his face said. I'm incapable of defending my wife.
This was his Michael Dukakis moment, considered to be the top debate gaffe since Nixon forgot to wear makeup.
Of course the fine citizens of Kentucky won't notice that. As long as Mitch keeps pouring the pork into the state they'll tolerate her.
