CNN Reporter to McConnell: Would You Consider It Racist If Someone Told Your Wife to 'Go Back'?

By Josh FeldmanJul 16th, 2019, 3:15 pm

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said today he doesn’t consider President Donald Trump’s tweets racist, while making a point of saying “it’s about time we lowered the temperature all across the board.”

At one point, CNN’s Manu Raju brought up his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, and asked, “You’re married to an immigrant… If someone were to say to her she should ‘go back to her country’ because of her criticism of federal policies, wouldn’t you consider that a racist attack?”

McConnell said in response, “The Secretary of Transportation came here at age 8, legally, not speaking a word of English, and has realized the American dream.”

Raju again asked if Trump’s comments were racist. McConnell instead talked about legal immigration and the “fulfilling of the American dream.”

Translation: This isn't working for us, and I don't have the moxie to address Trump directly, so I'll just say that everyone needs to tone it down. Give us an answer to Raju's question, Mitch. Someone says to your lovely wife that she should go back to her country: is that a racist attack? You say she's here legally. Well so did Rep. Omar, and Trump made that very despicable comment to her. What if Trump said that about Elaine (if that is her real name)?

What a pathetic little man Mitch McConnell is.

"Look guys, I can't even defend my wife from this f'ckstick...you expect me to protect the country. Who are we kidding".

That's what that look on his face said. I'm incapable of defending my wife.

This was his Michael Dukakis moment, considered to be the top debate gaffe since Nixon forgot to wear makeup.

Of course the fine citizens of Kentucky won't notice that. As long as Mitch keeps pouring the pork into the state they'll tolerate her.

Ever notice how when someone asks a tough gotcha question of these Republican criminals, they give an answer that's not an answer?
