Federal judge permanently blocks Trump admin from adding citizenship question to 2020 census
(CNN)A New York federal judge has issued an order definitively blocking the Trump administration from adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census in any form, despite the administration's insistence it has abandoned plans to add a question on the census.
Judge Jesse Furman, in his two-page order, also indicated the seriousness with which the court will continue to monitor this controversial issue, saying,"The Court will retain jurisdiction in this case to enforce the terms of this Order until the 2020 census results are processed and sent to the President by December 31, 2020."
President Donald Trump announced last week that he will seek citizenship information from agencies that already collect the data following the following the Supreme Court's decision in June that kept a lower court's order to block a citizenship question from the census in place.
Trump repeatedly said he would continue fighting to insert the question despite the court's ruling before ultimately issuing an executive order last week directing the Commerce Department to obtain citizenship data through means other than the census instead of attempting to put the question on census forms, or adding it separately. The order covers the Department of Homeland Security, which houses citizenship and asylum services, and the Social Security Administration.

(82,849 posts)Why is Judge Furman so suspicious of the administration? They insisted that they had abandoned plans to add the question on the census! Doesn't he trust them? Has the administration ever lied to him?

(149,627 posts)I wanted to believe it before, but something held me back.
Now, THIS judge has allayed my fears and allowed me to feel confident that this issue is dead.

(11,738 posts)He'll say how he is going to keep pushing for the "citizenship question" despite this ruling but in sloppy and vague terms that only his idiot followers will applaud.
"Oh, he is so tough, he never backs down..." Trump is like that friend that likes to talk shit to people but only if there are a bunch of guys around to "hold him back". "Yeah, your lucky my friends were here to hold me back or I would've kicked your ass"
I had an acquaintance like that in my young adulthood. He would say stupid things to people and then look to me and other friends of mine who were around for back up. One day he was being an ass, and had pissed of some guy, he came up to me and a friend who were hanging out and kept talking. The guy looked at us like if we were going to step in. We got up and walked away saying, "Don't start stuff you aren't willing to finish"
When Trump is out of office and out of power, everyone who supports him now is going to abandon his dumb ass.

(1,068 posts)shoot his mouth off that they were going to get that question on the survey. It seems like he is losing his grip on the political situation here. Not that he ever really had a grip on it at all. Just let him keep sliding down to a humiliating Election loss next year.
