There are plenty of Trump supporters who want to return to their imaginary past-America with no Muslims, liberals, gay people, or uppity black people who have the GALL of saying their lives matter.
But I can't find any Trump supporters who also want to return to REAL past-America with no air conditioning, no Internet, no 911 system to call on when they see a black person standing there "menacingly", no Twitter, a 50% chance of having no indoor plumbing, no antibiotics, and having a doctor who believes that diseases are not caused by germs but by an imbalance in the 'four humours'.
Anyone else want to take a whack at it?

(23,182 posts)My 2 grandmothers had 12 and 6 children respectively and in each family one of the babies didn't make it. I would have died after the 2nd baby and my sister would have died with the first non-viable fetus. Modern medicine saved our lives when we did get pregnant and helped us stay non-pregnant.

(23,182 posts)I went to get a pair of glasses in 1973 in FL and signed the check Sandra Sweat. It was a joint account for Steven R. Sweat & Sandra S. Sweat. The doctor said my signature was invalid since I was married. He tore up the check and demanded a new one signed Mrs. Steven Sweat. I refused because that was not my name, I had never used it and never would - my married name was legally Sandra Sweeting Sweat. He grabbed my glasses, put them in a case that he locked and said he wouldn't give them to me until I paid for them "properly". Even though I was blind without glasses and couldn't drive without them, I walked away. I went across the st. to get a soda and think. I saw him leaving the office so ran in and paid for them with a check signed Sandra Sweat and ran out of the office with them.

(31,411 posts)in my name only. I had recently been married. I got a phone call from the issuing company telling me my application was denied. Why? Oh, they said, your credit history was fine, but there were problems with the credit history of my new husband. WTF? I didn't apply for a joint card I said. Doesn't matter, I was told. You can't get one in your name only.
I was pissed.

(56,829 posts)that a women could get a mortgage on her own - it either had to be with her husband, or with her father/uncle/brother's name on it as a co-signer. Before that was a no.

(15,565 posts)In 1970 I worked full time and was married to a guy who was a full time college student with no income of his own. I made what was considered a very decent wage because I was secretary to the vice president of the company. Still couldn't get a credit card on my own record. I paid all the bills - the utilities, the rent, etc. but that didn't matter.
