From the mouths of the real people on the street.......
It's best to start tuning out CNN and MSNBC until the cable news networks stop enabling President Donald Trump's gaslighting of America.
You can at least respect Fox News executives and their pundits for embracing Trump's bigotry and using it to increase ratings and profits. But the folks at CNN and MSNBC act like they are part of the Trump resistance movement when they are also reaping the rewards of covering every vile sentence tweeted or spoken by the racist-in-chief. Yet the two networks have no balls because they won't hire outspoken black commentators such as Roland Martin and Jemele Hill who keep it real.
For the past week, there's been no escaping the wall-to-wall coverage of the reactions to Trump's July 14 Twitter fit telling Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib all of whom are minorities serving their first terms to go back to their countries of origin. Three of them were born in the United States. Only one member of "The Squad," Omar, who emigrated from Somalia as a child, is a naturalized citizen.
Wednesday night, Trump threw some more chum at the news sharks when he singled out Omar at his Klan campaign rally in Greensville, North Carolina. His supporters began chanting, "Send her back!" Trump just soaked it all in for the cable news networks that breathlessly covered the event.
The only way to stop Trump's influence is a media blackout of this president. Once you find out the man in charge is mentally ill and won't stop spreading hate, why would you continue to relay his message? During the civil rights movement, news outlets had no problem tuning out Malcolm X. The media made sure his message of "by any means necessary" didn't spread across America in a similar manner to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of peaceful resistance that galvanized the civil rights movement.
Meanwhile, Trump is plastered on TV screens across the nation while he incites his base to commit violence and possibly get one of the four congresswomen killed. When Trump mentioned Omar, he at one point made a gesture with his hand to his head as if he was holding a gun. The media stopped giving Louis Farrakhan a platform because of comments he's made about race wars. But when Trump incites bigotry and hatred, he gets more airtime.

How many of the producers are racist trumpites.
The media's response should have been 'they are all as American is you'. No more of this shit.

If nobody watches television news it will go away.
Our television plays DVDs and Netflix. That's all it does. Trump does not appear on our television ever. We don't suffer television commercials.
I sometimes listen to the radio. The first instant I hear Trump I'll mutter "Fuck Off!" and hit mute. If I can't hit mute then I'll mentally replace anything he says with the quacking of an angry duck.
Nothing Trump says matters. It's all pablum and piss for his pathetic army of depolorables.
Trump and Pence are know-nothing meat puppets. Their only real job is to make noise and sign the papers their masters place in front of them.

(1,399 posts)Almost nobody is watching traditional cable TV news any more so their producers need content that's more and more outrageous and provoking. Trump has been a godsend for them since it has temporarily slowed down their slide into irrelevance.
More people who want news listen to podcasts or watch youtube channels and only look at their preferred websites which only further reinforces their beliefs. I confess I'm guilty of it and would guess most people on here are too. When I'm in the car I'll usually listen to something along those lines if it's not music. My current car doesn't even have AM radio on it (Thank God).
And then the other 99% of people on the internet are watching cat videos or other things equally trivial.

(38,311 posts)My local free weekly is interesting, I always read that. From my perspective it is centrist, but most regular readers probably think it leans a little left just like them. Most of our elected leaders within this paper's coverage are solid California Democrats scoring high on Civil Rights and Environmental issues.
My wife and I subscribe to the local paper. It leans right. Most subscribers probably think it's centrist. I suspect most of its subscribers are fifty years old or more, like us.
We also have electronic subscriptions to very "serious" national newspapers. These are to the right of me and generally do not question the illusionary "free" market.
I read several international news sites on the internet. The BBC does an okay job of impartiality for many issues, but like other international news sites, they rarely bite the hands that feed them.
But seriously, people are better off watching cat videos than television news. It's likely I'd rather hang out with someone who watches cat videos all day than anyone who watches cable news. I know someone has to keep an eye on that television news shit but it's never going to be me.
