If not, you should be. A simple email telling him or her what you want done, with a brief explanation of why is all it takes. Send your rep something every week or two, as a reminder that you are following the news and paying attention to your rep's response and actions.
Is your Representative a Republican? Send your emails anyhow, but start working now to help the Democrat running for that seat as much as you can.
It is wrong of us to expect our House members (and Senators) to guess what we want them to do. We need to tell them. Write your messages carefully. Have someone proofread them, and then send them on a regular basis.
If you're not doing that, don't expect your elected representatives to guess what you want correctly. Your representative probably won't read or reply to your message, but it will get tallied and what's coming in will get reported to that elected official. Remember, each House member has to run for re-election next year. You don't need to remind them of that. They're very, very aware of it.
If you're already doing this:
If you're not, why not? What do you have to lose?

(15,810 posts)I'm stuck with Buck. His numbers are in my phone, and calls (or visits) to his office are not typically fruitful. But he and his staff know we're here. They don't like it, but they know.

(46,166 posts)He's a very nice man. But he can act like a timid back bencher even though he's in a pretty safe seat. He hasn't been supportive of impeachment inquiry hearings so we write often. I'm sure he hears from local right wingers so it's important to keep our side in his ear.

(8,390 posts)were scheduled. I deliberately worded my question that way.
"I don't know about that, but I'll pass on your concerns."
"I don't have that information."
"They're working on a schedule, but I don't know about it yet."
Yes, he's a Republicon.

(146,338 posts)They're afraid of doing them these days. If there are some, though, I hope you'll go and ask questions.

I went to the last one with a different congressman (R-Disgraced) and it was the only one he had.

(30,777 posts)I just did the same thing, and worded my question exactly like yours.
I am going to contact some of the Democrats in my precinct and some in the Indivisible group I belong to. We should all do this.
You rock!

(42,020 posts)That lets you know What your reps are voting on and when. You can comment on the legislation and have the comment sent directly to your Rep.

My senators are just right wing tools, but I give it a shot.

(1,480 posts)She has responded saying (basically) she has no intention of supporting impeachment. We're a Red district, but in 2018 her share of the vote dropped from 60% to 52%. Her opponent for 2020 is Democrat Peter Khalil.

(15,810 posts)Yeah, I call his numbers at home and in DC. Sometimes his local office is open, sometimes it's not. I don't call or drop in with any expectation of positive outcome, rather, to let him and his staff know that there are those of us who know better. He has seen my anti-Buck bumper stickers, and I'm proud to say that he hates them.

(38,337 posts)There's probably a picture of me out there grinning like an idiot and shaking his hand.
He's a solid California Democrat.
Maybe to my right wing in politics, as all of them are, but politics especially must always be practical.

(3,191 posts)Mike Thompson is an engaging man, I do not agree with him on many issues but he is a VERY close friend of my BIL, and I see him often at social events.

(54,448 posts)I had quite a long talk with him during the campaign. When I told him my concerns, and he said he'd make a note of them and get back to me if elected, I gave him plenty in contributions. He defeated the odious Pete Sessions, and since then, not one peep, not even a robo reply. Just mass emails asking for MORE money.
None less than Norm Ornstein told he was a good guy. I'm sure he is. I'm sure he votes the right way in the House. Besides, I'm nobody to him. Why should he care?
What do I have to lose? Nothing. What does Rep. Colin Allred have to lose? A four figure contribution to his re-election campaign that will now go to Planned Parenthood of Texas.

(21,642 posts)I called and expressed my desire for the concentration camps to be shut down but only once. I should start emailing once a week.
And let me add that even if you are not contacting you reps SOMEONE ELSE IS. and if that person is pushing a right wing agenda, you need to help drown out that voice.

(2,611 posts)Weve got most of the trees, most of the mountains, and pretty much all the Democrats in the state. The problem is the far right state legislature. Theyve started enacting state level laws to override our county ordinances. 🤬

(3,424 posts)I also wrote about him in the lead "letters" section posting in the Oregonian last week:
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Sunday, July 21
Waldens silence speaks volumes
Oregons only Republican U.S. Congressional representative had the opportunity to make a principled vote to condemn the presidents racist comments about four of his fellow representatives. He did not. He had an opportunity to lead his constituents in a conversation about bigotry and its corrosion of politics and his party. He did not. Is his constituent base so racist that he based his no vote on fear of a primary challenge? I certainly hope my fellow Oregonians are wiser than that, but I believe that Rep. Greg Waldens political calculus convinced him to cower in the corner rather than stand up to his partys hate speech.

(11,949 posts)She is still registered republican. Has voted that way in years but is not political enough to change her registration. Our rep is a Tea Party Light kind of guy. Think it means more coming under her name.
And yes, she is aware. And approves.
