This is not even actual news. It's 40 years old, and called The Southern Strategy. One reason it works so well is that the MSM enables it, by perpetuating this bullshit narrative that the GOP doesn't utterly own its racist voting bloc. It's all just an unfortunate coincidence, you know. How unfortunate, these racist incidents "happening to" the GOP. Such bad luck!

Lindsay is right, though, that they're losing the demographics battle - their base is old; it's literally dying*. People who are still angry about desegregation or whatever are getting fewer and farther between, and I have a strong suspicion that, generally, the younger a white guy is, the less likely he is to be angry about things like women's equality or gay rights or the fact that you're not allowed to discriminate against black people. Many of the younger ones are angry - but they're angry about Citizens United or corporate personhood or the widening gap between the poor and the 1%, but that's obviously not the kind of angry that Graham means here.

*I know there are lots of good, progressive, not-angry-in-the-way-Graham-means, old white men. You guys are awesome! My Dad is one of you!
