After another week of presidential temper tantrums, lies and overreach of powers it is clear as the toupee on his rather odd shaped head, that Trump has a clear strategy, that is being implemented on an ongoing basis, to reduce politics to the lowest common denominator - simplify every message into a barely coherent strap-line and always have something and /or someone to blame for what inevitably will be a failure 90% of the time.
If this seems familiar that is because it is. Look at the situation on the border as an example. This is a humanitarian crisis. This administration has used this crisis of their own making to justify ICE overreach on deportations. We see clear examples of this demonization of other throughout history. To have someone to really blame for policy failures and inadequacies as leaders, a populist wanker will encourage commotion, othering and provide inspiration for send her back, etc. To his base they are not one of us and therefore we don't care what happens to them. Last century the Nazis did the same thing when their simplified populist cries failed to produce meaningful change
. and we all know how that turned out.
It would be rather refreshing if the decision making of a Trump (or a Boris) were grounded in some category of ethical or rational reasoning, rather than just creating deep divisions in society based on fermenting bias, intolerance, McCarthyism and xenophobia to galvanise a horrid 'base'. Why anybody of any demographic would still vote for this racist, sexist, nativist nut-job is beyond mind-boggling for people of reason. BUT distraction politics is the name of the game. It works for people with an attention span of 30 seconds who won't hear or refuse to understand reasoned arguments but will the hear chanted slogans of the right-wing populist.
After all
The left offers intellectual reasoning, the right offers simplification and demonization.
