When our president's social media publications were revealed as horrible, why didn't we turn to the streets and force him to resign?

(58,785 posts)Because most of us aren't 1000 miles out in the Atlantic and in real danger of being abandoned by us and on our own next time a disaster hits? Because they voted heavily for Democrats, and large numbers of Americans don't even realize they're citizens and won't fight for them?
Right now those victimized, besides the mostly inconvenient Puerto Rican citizens, are brown-skinned people trying to get into the US. And, in the mainland U.S., a lot of mostly brown-skinned and other citizens of all ages with undocumented family members are also afraid.
But the rest of us not yet hit? Maybe go check your posts, LAS14, and those of people you agree with and see how many are about the immediate, ongoing plight of groups you don't belong to.
There's your answer. "Gumption" requires a common threat to fight. We're not involved enough, we don't yet see ourselves as a whole people in danger, we're too busy foolishly squabbling among ourselves to develop "gumption."
Yet.

(29,705 posts)Gathering one million people on Labor Day to confront Congress on their return 9/7 to demand impeachment. The difference between a march and sit in is that marches generate interest and enthusiasm, but sit ins are more effective because of the massive continual presence. Since it's a marathon not a sprint, we have to rotate in and out to maintain our lives, but we won't have much of one if we don't fight.
