Pema Levy
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has largely sat this election cycle out. From the sidelines, he chides his party for not reaching out more to Latinos thereby earning him a reputation as savvy and independent and provoking whispers that hes prepping for a 2016 presidential run.
But on Thursday morning, Bush was every bit the team player when he defended the fibs in Paul Ryans speech Wednesday night.
First, Bush defended Ryans assertion that President Obama is to blame for a GM plant that closed in 2008 under President George W. Bush. Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: I believe that if our government is there to support you this plant will be here for another hundred years, Ryan said in his speech. Thats what he said in 2008. Well, as it turned out, that plant didnt last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. But Jeb Bush claimed that this was not misleading.
No not at all, Bush said. Thats exactly those were the words Barack Obama used. It was a campaign promise and it is yet another campaign promise unfulfilled.

And Paul Ryan did nothing to help that plant.
So, cry us a river, Jeb. You are a fool.

And whose brother lied about WMDs? And about his seeing the first plane hit the WTC, then hearing about it, then seeing it, then hearing about it, and so on and so on?

(13,992 posts)He never promised to save the Janesville plant. He was talking about federal support to energy efficient vehicles, and that if workers received the support to create next generation vehicles, the plant could survive.
The plant was already schedule for closure in February 2008, when Obama made that statement, and it had been on the "to be closed" list since 2006. To suggest that it was the result of anything the Obama did as President is a big whopping lie.
It was a combination of the shitty Bush economic policies and a reorganization of General Motors.

(116,464 posts)is irrelevant. What Obama said in 2008, even if being distorted by Republicans, is irrelevant. He wasn't President, and the plant closed before he was President.
Conflating the two gives the impression that they're related.

(19,458 posts)Their entire campaign is built on lies and distortions and frankly... cut and pastes to make their point. They are truly become experts at the Third Reich style of messaging. I mean that truly, without an ounce of hyperbole. That is where they are getting their ideas.
