http://huffp.st/l1nwTTJPlaces that were subject to federal supervision in the past still appear to be removing voters more aggressively today.
At least 17 million people were removed from the voter rolls between the 2016 election and the 2018 midterms, according to a new report published by the Brennan Center for Justice this week.
The study updated an in-depth 2018 analysis on voter purges and offered further evidence that certain places continued to more aggressively remove people from the voting rolls following the Supreme Courts decision in Shelby County v. Holder in 2013.
In that decision, the Supreme Court essentially gutted Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which required jurisdictions with a history of racial discrimination at the polls to clear their voting changes with the federal government before those changes went into effect.

(146,288 posts)checking registration status for everyone we talk to. Since you can do it online in most, if not all, states, canvassers should be on the site that lets you check at all times and check everyone and let them know if they need to re-register.
That's going to be a must!

(58,648 posts)I live in a VBM state, and checking registration is pretty easy to do online.
I encourage everybody to look into it.
A lot of these 'purges' are of people who have moved or died or otherwise legitimately are not eligible to vote somewhere, but the haphazard and downright evil nature of how this is being done puts far too many people at risk of losing their rights. And after all, just because someone's name might be on a list somewhere does not mean that they might vote illegally. Far too many legal voters seem to get caught up in this shit.

(22,569 posts)I'm sure there are those who have not voted in many elections because they weren't motivated or excited or that they moved.
