(31,516 posts)Mitt has a lot of very wealthy people behind him who don't want to see President Obama win this election.

(12,081 posts)do believe the ads they see, and with Citizens United the billionaires could no doubt buy this election. It is a real possibility. I think that we are naive in thinking that just because something is rediculously unfair that somehow, someway, someone will stop it. Well, sometimes the unfair thing that no one thinks will actually happen, happens.

(384 posts)underemployed people vote, and unhappy people vote, and religious people vote, and rich and well-off people vote.
College students: not so much. Elderly poor: not so much. Black folks who have not paid their parking fine, or have lost their ID, or who don't have an ID, not so much. Arrogant liberals in "BLUE" states, not so much.
Although it is POSSIBLE for Obama to be re-elected, 3 key swing states are actively working to keep people from voting, period: Florida, PA, and OH. Without one or two of those states for Obama, it's OVER, Mitt is the President. It's that simple. Republicans know what they are doing, and most Dems haven't woken up yet.

Don't underestimate the power of money. People are conditioned to do as they are told through TV advertisement. Money buys A LOT of advertising.

(13,390 posts)But, to suggest it's a done deal is a negative message that discourages voters.

(62,325 posts)elections, what he is doing here is trying to get progressives to understand that if they don't work hard, Romney's money could win the election.
By stating it as even a possibility, the likelihood is that people who have been sitting back doing nothing other than voting in November may wake up and realize they need to start working hard, as they did in 2008. Pointing out the reality that if Obama is outspent by Romney, the only way he can win is by having a huge army of people working to get out the vote.
Iow, I think he's trying to light a fire over the less than enthusiastic Democrats who worked so hard in 2008.

(12,751 posts)when fraud is involved - which is a tidy way of rationalizing success as earned but failure as the result of nefarious forces - this country is pretty evenly divided between conservatives and liberals. Even so-called "moderates" tend to trend either Right or Left.
So, could we lose this election? Yes, we could. Not everyone agrees with us, despite the insistence I see around here all the time that liberals vastly outnumber conservatives in the real world. We don't.
I still expect our ticket will prevail, for any number of reasons. But is it guaranteed? No.

(2,500 posts)I have read so many posts here predicting an easy victory this November. Especially the ones showing the electoral map. So how can this be? It must be that they are intentionally misleading the rest, or they are being naive about the reality of how precarious this election cycle is.

ETA: I've tried really hard lately to be supportive of Obama and I've posted quite a bit of anti-Romney stuff, how are you going to react to those who want Obama to govern more to the left after he wins re-election?

Did I say anything about that? The fact is that this was still the worst economic crisis since that period, and the reason Romney is having trouble making headway is that people recognize that fact.
Bush screwed up, and the Republicans are selling a return to his stale and destructive policies.

(25,415 posts)It is self defeatism. It does not scare people to go out and vote, I think it adds apathy. And I like MM. But this...this is just a bad tactic to scare people and I don't think it works. There are loads of crappy voter laws out there now and some that have been recently struck down. But one thing we have in 2012 that we did not have in 2000 was an immense awareness of GOP fraud in elections. So far during this campaign President Obama and his team have not been afraid to call out Romney and Ryan on their lies. I think Obama is much more savvy than Gore was because he had to watch Gore lose in 2000 and Kerry lose in 2004. Sadly, we knew a lot less about voter suppression back in 2000, there was no DU or Daily Kos or even Twitter. We are so much more with it now. I am not unaware of what the GOP will do but I do think that Dems in general are not so naive anymore.

For God's sake, DO SOMETHING to keep Obama in the White House and keep the Senate in Democratic hands.

(384 posts)a close election.
But facts and character don't matter, money does, and Moore is right; Obama is at a $ disadvantage, and a voting likelihood disadvantage among his supporters.
Romney, on the other hand, has no problem getting stupid people to believe his lies, and to fear Obama, a bi-racial man, in a nation where stupid white people who vote think the white people should be in charge. Advantage for final vote: Romney.

(13,616 posts)Was him trying to get our arses out to vote, so as not to repeat 2010. Also, the key is Voter supressions laws. For example, they have been smacked down in Florida, but they have al;ready chilled registrations to vote.
