Fox News host Sean Hannity is calling for a virtual police state of armed ex-cops and military to surround schools and shopping malls to prevent mass shootings.
Every school, Hannity said. Secure the perimeter of those schools. Equip them with retired police and military, they should be on every floor of every school.
Retired police and military could volunteer for 15 hours a week in exchange for paying no federal or state income taxes, he suggested.
We can do that with stores. We can do that in malls. We can do that pretty much anywhere the public is, Hannity said. Courthouses, we can expand that out everywhere and keep Americans safe.
Makes sense to me -but, I'm suffering from early on-set dementia

(6,285 posts)Have Hannity set it up. Put him in charge. He can fund it as well. Should keep him busy while the grown folks figure a way out of this mess.

(13,552 posts)It doesn't matter how many armed guards are right there, it's about the ambush, the surprise, and the awful firepower of these military weapons.
Hannity is an idiot.

Another thing: Well, Hands Across America had their day, so for the seriously nostalgic and magical thinking folks, maybe a Badges Across America assigned to surround and in close grid positions everywhere would have an impact against mass murdering shooters now...??? <sarcasm>
Sean Hannity laid himself down with the dogs. and now tries with this proposal to shake off the plague fleas. He absolutely know this won't work, but the simpletons to whom he speaks could think this would work much better than gun control legislation.
Did anyone happen to see Gov. Dewine's presser this morning; wonder which proposals of "red flag" mental health legal measures; etc...he gave a list of about 20 points of the proposals, leaders will try to get through??? https://www.10tv.com/article/gov-dewine-urges-gun-sale-background-checks-red-flag-laws-after-dayton-shooting-2019-aug

(5,227 posts)an old fart police person around my house. Would never let him face the dangers of the street again. Reaction time is much slower. And what's to stop the white guys from declaring war on old farts? Besides, Sean, the feds have no power to touch State tax law and most senior police retirees have enough deductions to pay little or nothing in fed tax.

Whereas Id like to see Sean Hannity launched into the sun, but neither action will make schools safer.

(82,849 posts)Hannity's bold suggestion of a geezer police state will surely merit more consideration than any proposals about regulating firearms. That's how desperate some segments of our population are to avoid removing any firearms from society or restricting their availability.
