“This isn’t a mystery to me,” said one middle school classmate ... The classmate, who spoke to the newspaper on condition of anonymity, said the shooter once said he fantasized about tying her up and slitting her throat ...

The woman said she and her parents told Bellbrook police .. but .. she felt she wasn’t taken seriously, despite the would-be shooter including her on a hit list ...

Among a search of Bett’s social media accounts shows MySpace photographs of notebook sketches ... The sketches, confirmed by a friend of the shooter as authentic, featured nearly illegible writing with legible captions underneath, including “All Shall Be Annihilated,” “Bloodlust,” “Absolute Carnage,” and “Bloody Massacre” ...

An ex-girlfriend of Ohio mass shooter Connor Betts noticed a giant red flag on their very first date — when he showed her footage from the slaughter at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue, she said in a new interview.

Caitlyn “Adelia: Johnson, 24, told The Toledo Blade Monday that she dated Betts from March to May, breaking up just months before he gunned down nine people in Dayton’s nightlife district ...

Johnson said she started feeling alarmed in May when she joined Betts on a drive to deliver a letter to an ex-girlfriend, whom he said he dated two years earlier. He’d tracked the girl using a photo she’d posted of her house on Facebook, Johnson claimed.

The eerie letter said something along the lines of “Welcome to the neighborhood. You can’t escape your past,” Johnson said. He signed it, “Your neighbor” ...

Jessica Masseth was months into her sophomore year at Bellbrook High School in Ohio when she started getting disturbing text messages from a freshman named Connor Betts.

Betts texted that Masseth was on his “rape list,” describing in detail “what he wanted to do” to her, she said—even sending her the list of all of his proposed victims to prove she wasn’t the only one.

5. An obsession with violence and mass shootings

The gunman who opened fire in Dayton, Ohio, this weekend had an obsession with violence and mass shootings and had expressed a desire to commit a mass shooting, Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said Tuesday.

" (He was) very specifically seeking out information that promotes violence," FBI Special Agent in Charge Todd Wickerham added.

Unlike the El Paso shooting, which the alleged gunman appears to have described as part of an anti-immigrant crusade, authorities still do not know what motivated Connor Betts ...

But comments from authorities, memories from former classmates and posts on his apparent Twitter account show that the gunman took a deep interest in violence -- and, as in many American shootings, had easy access to powerful firearms ...
