Trump supporting customer claims server discriminated against her

Two women had walked in during the early part of her shift that day, and she said she smiled at them in her usual way until she noticed one of the women was wearing a Trump 2020 “Keep America Great” pin. She stopped smiling but continued with the transaction, she said.

The woman, 20-year Air Force veteran Jacqueline Johanning, asked her what was wrong. That’s when Hannah responded, “I don’t appreciate that you’re wearing that pin.”

After the women sat down, Hannah’s manager brought part of their order. On his way back, Hannah said the manager told her that the two women had asked to be reimbursed. At that point, the second woman, who was not wearing a campaign pin, walked to the counter where Hannah was standing and asked for the refund.

“I’m glad you think this is funny, but the review I write later won’t be funny,” Hannah recalled the woman saying, after telling Hannah she felt discriminated against. Hannah said she then retorted, “As a queer, low-income woman, it’s funny to me you think that’s discrimination.”

Hannah has been fired.

But I agree, when working with the public, you have to bite your tounge.

4. Fragile snowflake: "I don't appreciate that you're wearing that pin" equals discrimination

GTFOH with that nonsense. Political views are not a protected class, nor should they be (not just legally, but colloquially).

it still boils down to when someone is in a customer service position they are expected to treat all customers the same even if they have radically different political views.

I've waited on customers who had swastika tats. Had to bite my tongue so hard it nearly bled but was still polite and upbeat because that was my job.

If she just could not stand the customers then she should have made an excuse and sought out a manager. Quite a few times I've told an offensive customer "Something is wrong with this darn register, I'm going to get a manger to try it" in order to get a manager to take over the transaction.

5. They were served. They even got a free lunch. They called it "discrimination."

because the server didn't smile at them the way all servants do.

11. REFUND is the word, not free lunch. This was at Open City

coffee shop at the National Cathedral, and the refund was requested when the first part of their order was delivered, by the manager. Reportedly, the manager attempted to handle the incident by downplaying it, and they found that additionally offensive and decided to leave.

The company's statement is that there were also other reasons for dissatisfaction with this employee. Very easy to believe. I'm guessing the manager's also due for a refresher on how to be a manager.

Jerks like those MAGAts are the reason we have anti-discrimination laws in the first place. Their privilege and supremacist doctrine is only curbed by law, not decency.

8. She chose to toss in her two cents about the pin

Instead of giving a generic "Just a rough/long day" reply. It's not like the woman deliberately shoved the pin in Hannah's face, it happened to come into view when she went for her cash/card.

I've seen servers sacked for less over my career in food service.

9. Head shake. The manager didn't fire her fast enough.

I kind of suspect Hannah may have spent too much time hanging around social media sites where her favorite delusions and less admirable attitudes were reinforced.
