The woman, 20-year Air Force veteran Jacqueline Johanning, asked her what was wrong. Thats when Hannah responded, I dont appreciate that youre wearing that pin.
After the women sat down, Hannahs manager brought part of their order. On his way back, Hannah said the manager told her that the two women had asked to be reimbursed. At that point, the second woman, who was not wearing a campaign pin, walked to the counter where Hannah was standing and asked for the refund.
Im glad you think this is funny, but the review I write later wont be funny, Hannah recalled the woman saying, after telling Hannah she felt discriminated against. Hannah said she then retorted, As a queer, low-income woman, its funny to me you think thats discrimination.
Hannah has been fired.

(3,145 posts)it still boils down to when someone is in a customer service position they are expected to treat all customers the same even if they have radically different political views.
I've waited on customers who had swastika tats. Had to bite my tongue so hard it nearly bled but was still polite and upbeat because that was my job.
If she just could not stand the customers then she should have made an excuse and sought out a manager. Quite a few times I've told an offensive customer "Something is wrong with this darn register, I'm going to get a manger to try it" in order to get a manager to take over the transaction.

The company's statement is that there were also other reasons for dissatisfaction with this employee. Very easy to believe. I'm guessing the manager's also due for a refresher on how to be a manager.

(5,995 posts)Jerks like those MAGAts are the reason we have anti-discrimination laws in the first place. Their privilege and supremacist doctrine is only curbed by law, not decency.

(3,145 posts)Instead of giving a generic "Just a rough/long day" reply. It's not like the woman deliberately shoved the pin in Hannah's face, it happened to come into view when she went for her cash/card.
I've seen servers sacked for less over my career in food service.

(58,785 posts)I kind of suspect Hannah may have spent too much time hanging around social media sites where her favorite delusions and less admirable attitudes were reinforced.
