told them where to find the undocumented workers?
Then again, the Con himself hired undocumented workers.

(57,080 posts)and the company divided workers into "safety groups" who got rewards for having injury free periods. The rewards were actually pretty good if your wages were $10/hr but nothing you couldn't get at WalMart (without the company logo, of course). People were encouraged to not report injuries just so everybody else could get a 'free' winter coat for a kid or spouse. In fact the worse the injury if there was no bleeding, the more the pressure to suck it up.
It was shocking and she retired pretty quick after a new Hispanic hire with no training got her hand pulled into a disposal while she was wiping down stainless with a rag.

(5,124 posts)I work in mental health/addiction -
This is a thing in the world of addiction recovery- Those that can't afford to go to Rehab or sometimes sentenced by a judge - Chicken Farms - There are Chicken Farms that have set up Rehabs for recovering addicts - They get workers and those desperate to escape their lives of addiction and get a second chance go to some rural farm - I have heard good and bad things.
Seems like some of these companies like to prey on vulnerable people. Whether its addicts or undocumented workers

(57,080 posts)by a wealthy individual from NYC just before the depression. This owner had a poor but educated nephew and figured he could get the nephew settled and unload the factory on one move. The nephew figured that anyone with a nickle could afford an egg and moved to Wakefield, Nebraska and got very wealthy while his uncle lost everything in the depression.
At around the same time one of Al Capone's brothers changed his name and became town marshal of Homer, Ne just a few miles away. Some say he was trying to get away from the Capone infamy, others say he was there to be sure Big Al got his corn for liquor making with as little trouble as possible. But according to Wiki, he left before Al became a gangster.

Trumpsters are so stupid.

(24,367 posts)The amount of physical effort needed to get those bunches of green and dark red grapes to your grocery store is simply enormous and the amount of acreage dedicated to them is mind boggling.
I said in another thread on this topic;
The terrified white man demographic is going to shoot themselves in the foot
Just wait till the price spikes on every single item that needs to be hand picked, from strawberries to lettuce and back again.
They call it "Stoop labor". Work that requires hours and hours of bending over - to "stoop" over to perform the task.
To get Joe Average White Guy to do that work?.......I have no idea where the labor rate would be, but it's probably well north of $20/hr.

(33,643 posts)Cut back SNAP, TANF, make 'em work for Medicaid, etc. Also union busting.
Eventually even natives and nationalized citizens will fill the jobs cause they have to.
Also don't be surprised when the people in jails and immigrant detention centers are sent out to do it for $1/day, to 'earn their keep'. I'm sure some already are.

(38,311 posts)Until there is a corporate "death penalty" and CEOs sentenced to decades in prison, all their wealth forfeit, this will not stop.
The most vile corporations in the U.S.A. will call in immigration raids on themselves at the first hint workers are organizing.
And then they'll claim they didn't know, blaming it all on labor contractors who conveniently disappear.
It's the modern version of union-busting, but in this case the union busting Pinkertons are government employees.

(31,261 posts)To have a president who is actively fanning the flames of hate for his own benefit makes the situation even more acute. Regardless of how disappointed we may be with our eventual party nominee for President, every single one of us must both realize and act on there being a major need that we must meet, that is removing Donald Trump from the Office of President. That is going to be a fight, we see that nothing changes the minds of roughly a third of Americans about that monster, the other two thirds really have to step up and show the best of this country.

(99 posts)My family (Irish Catholic American) married into Mexican quite a bit. So, rather than blonde/blue/white, the little ones are all brown across the board.
So the rhetoric we're dealing with bothers me a great deal. They're all still small, but if someone - ever - discriminates against those children, I will throw down. Assuming my brother doesn't kill them first.
Trump's rhetoric is horrid. And it's not even solely against undocumented people. It's against all people of color. It's unconscionable. He blurs all of the lines, so we're just left going, "Oh, you're just full on racist. Ok then."
The little ones are still children. When they're adults, I want this country to be a different place.
