CLINTON, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say they encountered an aggressive dog on methamphetamine while searching a North Carolina property where a suspect stashed a stolen boat, chain saws and a motorcycle.

The Sampson County Sheriff's Office issued a statement saying the case began Tuesday when deputies stopped a suspect towing a lawn mower that was reported stolen from a police department. Authorities say they found oxycodone in Matthew Denton Pope's vehicle.

Investigators then searched Pope's home and found more stolen items, the release says. Animal Control officers were called because a dog there was acting aggressively and strangely. Authorities say the dog tested positive for methamphetamine.

Pope was being held Thursday on charges including drug possession and possessing stolen goods. A woman answering a phone listing for him declined to speak to a reporter.

Dog Taken From Suspect’s Home Tests Positive For Meth
August 8, 2019

Animal control officers have taken custody of a canine after it tested positive for methamphetamines. The dog was found at the home of Matthew Denton Pope on Old Warsaw Road near Clinton.

The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies with their Special Investigations Division stopped a vehicle Tuesday on Old Warsaw Road for a traffic violation. During the stop, agents discovered a lawn mower being towed by Pope had been reported stolen to Clinton Police. A search of the vehicle resulted in the alleged discovery of approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, 31 dosage units of Oxycodone Hydrochloride, 80 dosage units of Alprazolam, approximately 21 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Further investigation led investigators to Pope’s residence where a search was conducted. During the search, 12 firearms were located including one that had been reported stolen, one converted into a weapon of mass destruction, and one with the serial number removed. Deputies also found more methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Numerous stolen items were found at Pope’s home including a stolen boat, trailers, chain saws and a motorcycle.

Sampson County Animal Control was asked to respond because a dog at the address was acting aggressively and exhibiting strange behavior. The dog tested positive for methamphetamine.

The 27 year-old suspect is being held under a $125,000 bond on charges that include possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a weapon of mass destruction by a convicted felon, altering removing or destroying a gun serial number, possession of a stolen firearm, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of stolen property.

If you think this is funny, then you are completely wrong. Abuse of any animal is immoral. Never thought I would see this on DU.
