This is a blockbuster story if true that he is the one who called.
Why isn't he in prison?

(5,124 posts)The govt probably won't do anything - How about a boycott of restaurants that buy from them?

(11,949 posts)It may be in your grocery store.
Grocery store chicken is just disgusting. And I hunt and like meat. Grocery store beef and pork can be ok, if you look. But all industrial chicken is really just processed food. Bad genetics, horrible and filthy conditions their entire life, dangerous and dirty slaughter houses.

(19,834 posts)The labels don't always push the Koch Foods brand name, probably since "Koch" has taken on some negative connotation the last few years. (I don't think there's a connection to the Koch Brothers)

Will be looking into this matter further to see if any other local areas carry their chicken.

(28,075 posts)and the USDA found evidence to back up that claim.
He has also had plants raided by ICE in the past so he can't pretend he didn't know about undocumented workers. He just didn't care because nothing happens to the owners besides fines and being told not to do it again (with a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" .

(11,949 posts)Even here in central Florida, a crappy place to raise poultry, we have several local poultry producers. And are getting more local hog producers. Beef, not so much.
Yeah, it cost more. But I have been in industrial slaughter houses. As bad as hog and beef operations are, chicken slaughter houses are a place out of a nightmare.
The upside of our meat costing more is we eat less of it. We are up to 2-3 meat free days a week. Which is good for us and the environment.
I know some on DU dont have a budget that allows it. But many of us do.
If for your entire life all you have eaten is industrial raised chicken your first bite of a free ranged local chicken, very fresh will piss you off that you have been sold such crap your entire life.
I visited a relatively in the upper south and was able to buy local raised, farm to table grass fed beef at a farmers market. Straight from the farm owner. I cooked it for our dinner. As good a steak as I have ever had. I wish I had that option here. But hopefully it is coming.
De-industrialization of our meat industry is possible and would be a good thing all around.
Of course our vegetarian members dont face these issues!

Political donation:
Joseph Grendys donated $100,000 to Paul Vallas' election campaign committee, Paul Vallas for All Chicago, on Jan. 21, (2019) according to records obtained from the Illinois State Board of Elections (ISBE).
Vallas appears to be running for mayor of Chicago as a non-partisan

Vallas lost (barely) to Blagojevich in 2002, when he ran as a Democrat
