Can you report a missing person if you are not family?

Now I am not sure if this girl and her mom are truly missing but I just got a weird feeling and I always pay attention to those.

a month or two ago the daughters social media account just sort of disappeared off of Facebook. The mom hasn't posted anything in about a year but she usually answers private messages at some point. She hasn't checked her private messages or responded so far in a month.

I messaged the mother's sister to see if she has spoken to the mom recently and no response from that lady.

I messaged the daughter's husband a few days ago to ask if he has spoken to the daughter or the mom recently and no response.

The last thing on the husband's social media account is the family taking a trip to the woods one month ago lots of pictures lots of happy faces everything's cool. And that's it nothing since.

Anyway I'm probably totally paranoid but I just sent a message to the local police department of their family asking them if I can do a welfare check on any of them since I am not family. Waiting for a response

It's absolutely OK to report a missing person if you're not family, and have reason to believe something is wrong.

You did the right thing.

the police found her "unresponsive" on her bathroom floor. They managed to revive her.

And let them know about the Facebook messages. You just never know. A month is a long time for people to be gone without letting those around know of your plan to be away. I wonder if these women are being missed at work?

asked for one on a student of mine a few years back and wished we had asked sooner - she had shot herself. We still don't know why she did it. I talked to her by phone about a week before she did it and had such a bad buzz about it, nothing I could put a finger on but a sense of dread.
