(32,634 posts)I'm not Lutheran but I admire their spunk. The Catholic Church needs to show leadership as well. Certainly Latinx immigrants are more likely to be Catholic than any other faith.

(58,785 posts)This is wonderful and will lead to really meaningful action. Take THAT Republicans!
My aunt in Spokane was Lutheran, and her congregation was so plain and joyless, the sermons I heard while visiting made up of rote reminders of the salvation carrot followed by rote threats of the hellfire stick; and a Lutheran rest home I once visited in L.A. was so poor, dreary and monastically austere, anyone there in their rooms with all doors closed, seemingly a place to keep the soul in order while waiting for the carrot, that those experiences were burned in my brain.
Obviously a very unfortunate picture, and I'm so glad to add this to it.
"Lutheran" and "radical hospitality!"
Go, Evangelical Lutherans!

(23,313 posts)It seems to be those that loudly proclaim themselves to be Christian that behave in the most anti-Christian manner and the folks that simply act like Christians are often not too concerned with proclaiming themselves as such. Just an observation. 🌈

(6,805 posts)Pastors can serve between the two church bodies among other things. The Lutherans are also in full communion with the United Methodist Church and the Moravian Church, that I am certain of. I would also imagine whatever the mainline Presbyterian Church is called as well.

(1,990 posts)I was a member of one Lutheran church that separated from the ELCA because they were too liberal toward homosexuals. I separated from that church and joined a rural ELCA church. There is a big difference between the Missouri, Wisconsin and ELCA Lutheran synods. It interesting because I know about half of our more liberal ELCA church probably voted for Trump. Oh well if they dont love it they can leave it 😁

(314 posts)I want the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) to get proper recognition. The other large Lutheran body in the U.S. and the world is The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, which is more conservative and would not do what the ELCA has done. The ELCA also is involved with Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, which is headquartered in Baltimore. I hope that more church bodies will follow this wonderful example of putting faith into action.

(101,311 posts)Fox contributor Robert Jeffress echoed Morris' sentiments. "That's right and look, churches ought to minister to everyone regardless of their immigration status, but there's a difference between ministering the people and assisting people in breaking the law," the American Southern Baptist pastor said.
"The church has no business in doing that. And look, the Bible is very clear about this," Jeffress continued. "In Romans 13, Paul says, 'Government is established by God. To resist government is to resist God himself.'"
"There is nothing about enforcing immigration laws, securing our borders, protecting our citizens, that violates the word of God," the pastor said. "If Christians don't like immigration laws, they are free to try to change those laws, but they are not free to break those laws."

Fred Clark found the correct comparison:
Host Pete Hegseth discussed the Ten Boom familys decision to declare itself a sanctuary as the White House cracks down.
So is this crossing the line? Hegseth asked his panel.
We dont want to create a place in which the rule of law is not respected. Thats not good for the nation, its not even good for the untermenschen who is looking for help to suggest to them that somehow, theres one place where you have to follow the law and another place that you dont, Fox News commentator Jonathan Morris said.
