HOUSTON -- A gunman is on the run after Houston police say he shot and killed two people with an AR-15 in the middle of rush hour on I-10 near John Ralston.

Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, investigators said a car hit another vehicle, causing it to spin out. The shooter and another person got out of the sedan that caused the crash. One of them quickly got the attention of witnesses in the area.

"A Hispanic male, holding a really big gun, shooting at another car," reported a police dispatcher.

"One of the witnesses saw the weapon," Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Bobby Dobbins said. "He's familiar with guns and he believes it was an AR-15."

16. An AR-15 isn't really a great choice for a home defense gun.

Although the .223/5.56 round is of intermediate power, it's small, light bullet travels at a very high velocity - approaching or exceeding 3000 fps. In addition, although the rifle was originally designed in such a way that the bullet would break on impact and remain in the target, the round today will often punch right trough a body, with enough remaining energy to over penetrate drywall with ease, making people a room or two behind the supposed bad guy also potential victims.

Buy a shotgun, Lindsey.

Overpenetration from an AR-15 round would make more of a danger to neighbors and surroundings than being useful.

How stupid does he think we are? Having experienced some of those situations I can tell you (but hardly have to) that looters go to places where there’s a density of what they need or just want. That fool’s house would only rate if he was trapped without any way out and would rather shoot than organize his equally trapped neighbors than figure out a way to work together. Lord help that bastard if he took that route and ran out of bullets.
