What do you have against farmers, dude?

I’ve made fairly decent money my entire life (not as a farmer), and I couldn’t use algebra if I tried.

I love DUers who insult other professions...

I'm all out of sorts watching the mean people take over this country. And It is a fire that has taken on a life of it's own, that I don't think we will be able to extinguish. And it has freaked me out! And I don't understand people's humorous statements. Am just over the top on edge.

They need to figure out how many acres need to be planted and the number of bushels or other farm measure.

Figure out the amount of chemicals to use and the mixture.

Figuring out the amount of feed for the animals.

Ironically of course. The trombone playing kid may tum out the most successful. His brothers are liberal arts majors. 😉

is a much more effective way of discouraging undocumented workers from coming into our country.
Putting the responsibility where it belongs- businesses who knowingly hire undocumented workers
so they can take advantage of them by paying them less and committing wage theft, which goes unreported,

Immigrants with green cards are documented.
Refugees who are allowed to stay in the US via the court system would become documented.

Fine sweat shops an amount that exceeds what these rotten companies save by hiring immigrants at sub par wages. "Jobs that Americans are unwilling to do" is just another way of saying "we pay less than minimum wage".

If Koch Foods payed $25 an hour, the application line would be down the block and people would bust their asses to keep their jobs. I know because I retired from Packard Electric and I wouldn't have worked on that assembly line for a dollar less. It was hot, tedious, and mind numbing. I often dreamed of quitting, but I had a family and it was good money.

They should fine these companies in the tens of millions and end outsourcing. Pay a living wage and rebuild the middle class.

and protect their rights. The only reason a company would hire an undocumented immigrant is because they can get away with things they could not with a citizen or a resident who can legally work.

Are these companies that hire undocumented immigrants:

- Paying the minimum wage?
- Having them fill out a W-4?
- Paying applicable taxes, like unemployment tax?
- Carrying workers compensation insurance?
- Reporting all compensation to the IRS?

Yeah, right. They hire undocumented immigrants because they can abuse them knowing they won't report any of it.

As of 2019, first offense is a fine of $573 to $4473 per each person hired. By the third offense, the fine can be up to $22,363 per person plus 6 months in jail.
People crossing the border without US permission are charged with a misdemeanor, but are often detained in centers for months.

Don't ignore the fact that most factories and resorts hire undocumented workers to avoid paying a living wage, or even minimum wage. "Jobs Americans are unwilling to do" would evaporate at $25 an hour and the application line would go down the block.

I worked my life in a hot factory on a union assembly line. GM robbed me of a piece of my sanity, but they compensated me well. I would have quit for less. I guess they could have opened plants in Mexico, and they did, but some jobs can't be outsourced.

If we fined these sweat shops an amount that made it totally unprofitable to hire someone in the country without documentation, wages would rise for everyone else.

This is not about hiring immigrants. That is usually perfectly legal.

It's about hiring undocumented workers which is illegal. Hiring an undocumented citizen is illegal, though highly unlikely as most citizens can produce the accepted documentation.

This is pointing out the hypocrisy of treating the workers as criminals while ignoring the crimes the business by default committed if there are undocumented workers to round up.

Make sense?

learned well that all enforcement of law is selective. He is playing that hand against anyone who opposes him, and flipping the legal system to support him and him only. This is a cancer on the republic. I do not know if we can outlast this menace. And I do not know who else is behind him other than the Russians. There are many displaced forces in the world that would like to see American democracy fail. We won two world wars, tipping the balance late in World War I to defeat the Kaiser, and of course Nazi Germany and Japan. Stalin played WWII on alternating sides. So we have enemies that we didn't expect to resurface, in part because we never had sedition at the highest level.

it is hard to know if they are really legal or not.

There used to be a number to call at the IRS. I've gotten ok's from this IRS line and then later find out that they actually are undocumented.

That said there are very few people who will work these jobs that require great skill and strength. Where I am farm workers are averaging $16-$18/hr plus medical benefits. It is not about paying them less. It is about the skills that only they possess. Despite the idiotic rhetoric about farm labor being unskilled, it requires a great deal of both expertise and strength and endurance. Something that people who grow up in urban areas cannot quickly master.

1) It doesn't catch every undocumented worker

2) It's voluntary. There are a few states that require it, but there is no federal requiring employers to use it.

at Target. It was Christmas season, and he was hired on the spot when he put in his application. They'd just lost a bunch of employees whose Social Security numbers turned out to be not valid. Hmmm. For at least the next three or four years the same thing happened: employees who'd emigrated from other countries, been hired and worked for a few months, suddenly were let go when their documentation, meaning their Social Security numbers, were discovered to not be valid.

The up side for my brother was that he was born in this country, had appropriate documentation, and was very content doing night stocking. At some point he said to me essentially that management was perfectly aware of what was going on but was happy to keep on hiring illegals and keep them working until their documentation fell apart. I never questioned my brother closely on this topic, but I suspect that in his time working for Target he was one of the very few documented citizens doing that job.

Which says a lot about the problem of getting regular citizens to take those jobs. I suspect that part of the problem is that companies like target are not reaching out to citizens who'd be willing to do those jobs. And then, of course, there's the issue of how crappy a job is and if people are willing to work there for the wages offered.
