Came here from Europe. Company folks probably thought they would make money and go home. That's not how it works.

Cargill had recruiters all over Latin America. There Grain sales offices were selling Corn and other cereal grains and running recruiting operations at the same time. Food Processors just exploited the same Pipe Line used to bring the Summer Field Hands into the Sugar Beet fields of Western Minnesota and North Dakota and Montana.

Sad to say, watched this in real time during the 60's and early 70's. Making sales calls in that region, one knew when the spring beet planting was about to start by the first Pick-up with Texas plates and my retail consumers ordering Hispanic Food Ingredients. Running joke in that area is,white flour is the strongest season sold to the locals.

If they did, they would be happy to have these workers in our country. If the plants & farms that exploit these workers had to pay legal labor for their back breaking work in horrendous conditions, the price of tomatoes & chicken would sky-rocket. Personally, I would gladly pay higher prices in exchange for a system that doesn't exploit labor. I would also encourage people to go veg. The animal industry is inhumane beyond belief. And environmentally filthy, as well. ~ steps off soapbox.
