(5,162 posts)Eastwood "rambling" is going to be big. Real big.
Now back to our usual programming of underestimating the republicans.

Just. Fucking. Awful!
In a million years I never thought fricking RUBIO would outshine Eastwood!

(32,704 posts)And when does Obama say "shut up?" For it to be funny, it should have some similarity to reality.

(9,137 posts)Clint has always been antiwar. Any American anywhere cheering against war is good sign. For all of us.
Chorophyll
(5,179 posts)I mean, he's at the Republican convention, right? Presumably these people were Bush/Cheney supporters? So the War on Terror was okay with them? But now that Obama is president, they're magically against it?
I seriously doubt anyone on this thread is in favor of Bush and Cheney's war.
tama
(9,137 posts)Clint is old antiwar libertarian guy and he blamed Obama for not stopping war, which was one of the "hopes" in 2008.
And he wasn't talking (between rambling) to just the crowd there, but to all "republicans, democrats and libertarians" and generally Americans, "best people". His movie audience.
And now that I'm thinking, he said FU to Romney (pretending that invisible Obama said so). Subliminal.
Chorophyll
(5,179 posts)What was I thinking.
Puregonzo1188
(1,948 posts)Which is why he struck me as such a bizarre choice for the RNC. His comment wasn't totally surprising as from the beginning I was wondering if he'd mention the war, but that was one bizarre speech. And the fact that he got a near standing ovation for ending the war struck me as odd as well.
tama
(9,137 posts)and probably they are just that dum. Wanted to vet Ron Paul's speach, but let Clint talk ad lib. Not much of an "endorsement", but if you are not looking through Dem eyes, that was speach for whole America.

(135,425 posts)He has SHAMED himself. He has put an ignominious exclamation point of shame on an otherwise storied career.
He is throwing red meat to brain-damaged lions. It's horrible to watch, but one cannot look away.
This is the "HIGH ROAD" night of the rMoney campaign? Go fuck yourself? Really?
How humiliating!!!

(18,048 posts)This has been the plan all day long.
Talk about how bad he is at public speaking and how terrible he is----then when he doesn't drool all over the floor, proclaim him a genius!!
This is exactly what they did with W in 2000.
The Clint Eastwood thing is just a bonus ace-in-the hole.

(19,458 posts)even Andrea Mitchell is going "wtf?" about his talking to a chair.

(40,416 posts)Here is the original, the VEEP debate in 1992 with Dan Quayle and Al Gore.
James Stockdale universally won the sympathy vote and would have likely won Mr. Congeniality, if such a think existed. All my Dem friends and I agreed. He was both a sad case, but at least a self-effacing one. His opening line, remembered in the above video clip, will go down in history as the most humble thing ever said in a debate for national office.
One simultaneously felt sorry for him, but also respect to be brutally honest.
I liked him. I hope other DUers did, too.
I do not like Clint. And I certainly do not like any Republicans.
