In the wake of two mass shootings, overwhelming and bipartisan majorities of voters favor background checks on gun buyers and taking guns from people who are a danger to themselves or others, according to the latest Fox News Poll.
Two-thirds also support a ban on assault weapons, although that majority is largely driven by Democrats.
Meanwhile, President Trumps job ratings are increasingly negative in the shooting aftermath, as 59% say Trump is tearing the country apart, compared to 31% who feel hes drawing the country together.

(2,199 posts)Background checks are required on all sales but they don;t have an easy way to do it, as far as i see it you need to get a registered dealer to do it for you...They are not all that happy to oblige ..

(2,199 posts)Is that they could help a lot by making it easier to get that background check done, publish a number to call with a way to enter a card number to cover the $10 charge and do it that way otherwise if I want to sell a gun I need to take the gun ,the buyer and myself 30 to 50 miles to find a dealer that is willing to do the calling... and take care of the paper work.. The dealer would charge for that and that is fine if you could get them to do it...
Personally I would do so if I was trying to sell a fire arm but many won't bother

(11,949 posts)There are several ways background checks will work. Which all involved there being some record of who owns each gun. Otherwise, whats stopping someone from selling a gun there is no record of to a stranger? Which is what happens at gun show thousands of times a day.
They will see it as gun registration, which I support but even some DU members dont.
The last Democratic Platform, the one we operate under now acknowledges the right to own a firearm, with strong regulation needed. Registration is in no way at odds with the second amendment even as Scalia saw it.
So we will have to do it without republicans votes. Which means first we have to win!
