Ex-senator lays into 'stone-cold nut' Steve King: He makes the 'legitimate rape' guy seem mainstream

“Well, Steve King’s a nut. He’s just a stone-cold nut. He makes Todd Akin, who was my opponent back in ’12 who said, you know, if it’s a ‘legitimate rape,’ a woman has a way of shutting down her pregnancy. He makes him look kind of mainstream.”

“I mean, this guy, if the people of Iowa send him back to Congress, they get what they deserve,” said McCaskill. “It’s just frightening to me that this guy has a position in our government, with all of the things he said, offensive to people, black and brown people about immigrants, and now the notion that he thinks it’s just fine if a 14-year-old is raped repeatedly by her father, that she would be forced to carry that baby and have that baby.”

He has always been odious but he has really jumped the shark🦈. How anyone can vote for him is beyond me.

raids on farms in his district employing illegals. He made an exception for the farms run by Devin Nunes family, of course. A reporter went to investigate, and was watched the entire time, making him extremely nervous. It was on DU a while ago. Scary stuff.

King, Michelle Bachman, Cucinelli. Their eyes are WIDE open, and they virtually never blink. The crazy just leaps out.

Todd Akin (R - Nth circle of Hell) said women can't get pregnant if it's a "legitimate rape", so there shouldn't be a rape exception to abortion restrictions

King says women can, but that's not the zygote's fault, so there shouldn't be a rape exception to abortion restrictions.

The rationalizations differ because neither one really cares about that part. All they care is the second. At least until they have the chance to tighten the screws further.

the WH? After all, look at the clown in there now, read the things he has said. The MAGA's like people who say what they think. King stands a good chance if he runs against tRump. Imagine a debate between those two nutcases?

He's not a "stone-cold nut". He was essentially taking his opinion to an absurd extreme. Rape was probably much more common 1,000, 10,000, or 100,000 years ago. Especially in warfare.

He's a zealot who believes that all Abortion is murder. If you hold that binary position you cannot accept exceptions for rape and incest; the zygote/fetus is not responsible for it's origin, it doesn't deserve to die, and the woman/host has a duty to carry that child to term.

His position is pretty much the same as 99% of RTLers. Just saying "he's a nut" or "that's ridiculous" isn't refuting his position with facts or persuasive logic.

...think and speak from their guts, and their guts are full of shit. They fear women, and they fear women's rights over their own bodies. And their small-minded hateful god has told them over and over that they are right and the rest of us are foul murderers.

After 5 decades of this I have given up on reason and logic, and will settle for making sure the LAW is on the side of women's bodily autonomy and OUR moral right to make choices.

Calling this bozo a "stone cold nut" is mild.

If people choose the path of evil, that is on them.

Abortion is mentioned nowhere in the Bible. It is part and partial of these people's crusade against Women, LGBT people, Contraception and Sex in general.

...their petty, mean, small-minded god. Before that I constantly stumbled trying to express it as "I reject their conception of God," and the like.

No, no, they have the god they want, and their god is a nasty god who believes women are nothing but uteri on legs waiting to be inseminated by any passing male.

When the Hebrew god commanded his followers to have no other god before him, he was not declaring monotheism as such, just single allegience.

To say I think Evangelicals/fundamentalists read the Bible wrong in some important regards is putting it mildly. (Sermon on the Mount? What's that?)

Probably not this absurd statement, but the point is: it's not just Men. My cousins have indoctrinated their children in RCC Anti-Choice propaganda from birth.

The Anti-Choice agenda is to change the law, one turn of the screw at a time, and they've almost completed that task. Eventually they'll hit on a case that a post-Ginsburg, 6-3 SCOTUS will use to justify overturning RvW, and the country will be right back where it was in 1973. Maybe in worse shape, actually.

King is not mentally ill, which is what "stone-cold nut" means. He's a Fascist in a nation where Fascism is ascendant.
