How does a media company like CNN make this kind of mistake?

https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/15/politics/trump-buy-greenland-wall-street-journal/index.html

They are citing the Wall Street Journal. But still to not fact check the statement that Eisenhower purchased Alaska.

Aides expressed both expectation and reservation at the President's still-unclear interest in the idea and had questions about the island's military and research potential, the Journal reported. They pointed to those outside the administration floating a Greenland purchase as a potential legacy-builder for Trump, similar to President Dwight Eisenhower's purchase of Alaska, the paper added.

fill airtime between ads for drugs we never knew we needed. They brush up against journalism on occasion, but it is not something planned on their part.

Alaska became a state in 1959 when Eisenhower was president.

There is no excuse for that kind of mistake.

...and it became the 49th State on Jan 1, 1959, during Ike's second term.

They might be smart or might be stupid. But size has never made one smarter.

They don't get smarter. They just get bigger.
