(62,414 posts)He care not one whit. He will not listen, he will not change, he does not care one bit what his constituents think. In the many years King has been the congress critter, I think people finally have learned it does no good to try to write or talk or in any way try to engage him.
That would be a total waste of a person's time that could be better used working for his opponent.

(13,041 posts)Why his constituents continue to vote to keep a morally bankrupt man in office when he does not care what they think is unfathomable.

(18,964 posts)I cannot fathom exactly how, but King has been getting re-elected in this district for years even though the voters KNOW he's bat-shit-crazy....that means the district is "bright red".
I understand he's facing a three-way race in a primary and his opponents are slightly less crazy than he is...
If one of those "slightly less" crazy republicans beat him we might lose any reasonable chance to turn the seat blue...
It would be easier for a Dem to win if he was running against King and his record as opposed to another so-called moderate Republican
Opinions?

(62,414 posts)Most republicans of any stature in this state have turned against King in the primary.
Gov. Reynolds who refused to dump King during the 2018 election did so shortly after the election. She lost in 3 of the 4 congressional districts but won largely enough in King's 4th district to win the governorship.
Bob Vander Plaats dumped on King a couple of weeks ago. Vander Plaats is like the evangelical Pope of Iowa and lives in the 4th district, King's district. BVP has a fairly rabid following in that district.
King's major primary opponent is Randy Feenstra who is chair of the state's Senate Ways and Means committee. As such he has been central to the huge tax cutting bills that will soon be crippling Iowa. But they are popular.
Feenstra is not well known throughout the district, but by the time the primary comes around, he should be. I expect this to be a really tight race.
And yes, like you I think King's negatives could be a real factor in the general election by keeping many voters from voting for him. I can't find the difference between Reynolds' votes in the 4th district and King's, but it was substantial. If King is the candidate in 2020 I expect he will once again have lots of people vote against him. If Feenstra is the candidate I expect him to pick up votes of all those who identify republican which is a majority in the 4th.
So in short - having King as the 4th district candidate in 2020 is probably in our favor.
