(70,762 posts)No reason of idealism, and even in these years that he writes books about the KENNEDYs, he said in other moments of truth that he grew up in a family of "cloth coat Republicans" and that the attraction to JFK was based on ethnic pride, Irish Catholic pride, again NOT ideology (although these days JFK seems Conservative) or idealism. Repeating, he SAID he did not go into the Peace Corps for the reason of idealism but rather, explicitly and specifically, to get out of going to Vietnam.
As for the things he mentions often enough, he says things that, in his mind, glorifies him, such as bragging he worked as a Capitol policeman. That was a three months' job, which he probably thought of at the time as a rent-a-cop thing, but after the Capitol policemen were shot, Tweety found it to reflect potential glory on himself.
