fuck the nypd union.

we have come to a pass where it is just assumed that interested parties are going to see clear cut events in a completely different light. are going to have separate realities.
this is why we are where we are.

the talking heads assumed the union was going to scream bloody murder here.

and so they did.
and it made me sick.

if they believed in laws and rules and due process and justice, they would have made a temperate statement of support for their brother, but an acceptance that justice has been served.

i cannot imagine any universe in which a person makes a fatal error on the job, and gets to stay on the job for 5 FUCKING YEARS while the process plays out.
y'all did your jobs, brothers.
you got your brother every drop of fairness, and then some.

pat yourself on the back for seeing that the system works, and accept the god damn outcome.

8. The NYPD union is made up of and represents blue collar

members of the police force.

Sergeants have their own union.

I don't think that blue collar workers are fine with a system that lets the white collar supervisors evade responsibility.

and many plan on that.
and sadly, many who have a realistic plan to get there know that the path requires you to at least go along, if not join in.
the honest cops know they have no path.

maybe they need the honest cop's union. here in chi there is an african american patrolman's association. it has a proud history of standing up for fairness and honesty. needless to say, the fop hates them.

"patrolmen", the lowest rank in the NYPD.

I don't know you where you live, but here in the NYC metro area where I live, there are paths for honest cops. NYPD promotions are largely standardized test based.

I was born in the Brooklyn and grew up on Staten Island where I lived for 30 years. We're Long Islanders now. I've been here my whole life.

I come from a family of blue collar civil service workers, including my husband who is a 9/11 survivor and who spent more than a quarter of a century as a UFA union delegate. I still have close family in the NYPD.

Anyone who lives in a city or town where the only realistic plan for a cop to get a promotion lies in turning a blind eye to or joining in corruption, where "the honest cops know they have no path", should probably step away from the keyboard and clean up the place that he or she calls home.

I don't live in a place where corruption is the norm rather than the exception. I live in NY where there are 36,000+ cops, the vast majority of whom are hardworking, decent people.

i know someone who just retired from cpd, after 20 years, as a patrolman. that is her take on her department. she was a good cop, and should have been more than a patrolman.

after rekia boyd and laquan macdonald etc etc etc, i have a hard time not believe the worst.

it was really the screeching tenor of the response that just set my teeth on edge. a jot of humility would have gone a long way.

2. The only unions that the rethulicans appear to support

are the police unions....well, perhaps other 1st responder unions as well, like Fire Fighters. Other than that, in rethuglican eyes, all other unions are bad....why is that?

they have significantly less regard for firefighters. see- 9/11 fund.

i'm sure it is just a coincidence that the leo unions are full of white supremacists.

should come from police unions and NOT from taxpayers!

Then you might actually start to see some accountability.

is that we, back in that long ago day, stood on the promise that we vouched for the skills and training of our members.
back in that day, we policed our own. maybe the guy w the flask in his lunchbox would get work, but he was the last guy at the hall to go out.
sooner or later, guys like that moved on.
not perfect, of course, and tie went to the brother.

and i cannot imagine, in a million years, a construction worker who caused an accident that cost someone's life and having my union coming out and screaming, i mean screaming, that firing that person was an injustice.
