This is an article from last year, but there are many of them and some are more in depth and recent.
Well, they are like Boy Scouts. Be prepared. It would be silly to not have contingency plans if you have billions. However, how they see things is very troubling and noteworthy. So, you talk about accountability, they get to help mess it up royal and then split. How cool is that? It would be better for the rest of us if there was some incentives involved to reverse the tide, so to speak.
I see potential problems with the long-term aspects of their plans, but I won't go into that here. I also assume there are other places and plans that we may not be aware of. The more you have the more routes of escape and havens you can consider.

(12,712 posts)That's what I was alluding to about things not necessarily working out well in the long run
It seems to be the same mentality that many backwoods preppers seem to have. I don't think it is well thought out and you can easily imagine the nightmare scenarios that could befall them. But hey, they can dream on. There are far too many factors involved and a whole lotta' chaos would be going on.

(31,261 posts)I hope that they have PLENTY of food and water stockpiled. The last two times functioning societies fell apart, Royal France and Czarist Russia, the chaos lasted for many decades. If those idiots think that they will be able to grow vegetables and food animals with the world collapsed around them for decades, they are fucking idiots. Their great wealth is a result of a functioning financial system, which will not exist in a reign of chaos. Outside of what they can take in their bunkers with them, they will be penniless. Even with their tech sophistication they won't be able to extract any of their money from a new system, if they try that will give them away and they will almost surely be found and murdered in the most horrendous way that their captors can imagine.

(18,672 posts)Maybe they wouldn't have to if they stopped stealing wages and tax dollars from the lower economic classes. They also pollute and pillage the commons and scoff at having to pay even a dime of taxes. I think excessive greed is a form of mental illness.

(19,243 posts)However, prepping via stockpiling beans and bullets in a lonely bunker is the dumb way to do it.
Society will collapse because we're going to ignore climate change and environmental degradation until natural disasters bankrupt nations and devastate crops globally. At that point (my guestimate is it will begin in earnest around 2050), the smart people will have already organized local circles of resilience, working together to maintain what they have, grow and preserve food, etc. Look to movements like Transition Towns for examples of who will make it through: https://www.transitionus.org/transition-town-movement
The loners die; only communities survive.
