Tuesday TOONs - That conference Trump has no use for except feeding his pockets next year

That conference Trump has no use for except feeding his pockets next year
Same way his golf trips do, even biglier! (But Trudeau will be banned, and it's Melania's fault)

Trumps and Macrons

Where we are now

I’m at the point where I’ll complain how this disrespects pastel magical ponies. At least they put smiles on some peoples’ faces. And are more realistic.

”Growth”

The Very Stable Genius has a plan for that

Prescription

Food for thought: One of the tools conservatives used to normalize never-ending axe-grinding and weaponize it against the government
After all, who were the bad guys in the narrative?: spineless gummint bureaucrats stabbing soldiers who sacrificed for this country in the back!

Git along, little kitties, git along

and I refuse to get involved in petty bickering over which candidate is better because as far as I am concerned they are all great ones in comparison to Trump.

When the POW's were released from North Korea, amazingly no electronic warfare officers returned. Electronic warfare to jam radars from aircraft was in its infancy, and the Russians were way behind. Although some were known to have survived ejecting from their aircraft, somehow none made it out of the camps to return to the USA.

When the U2 pilot Francis Gary Powers was imprisoned in Russia, he heard rumors of the 'other Americans' held in prison. Its entirely possible that these men were sacrificed to avoid a confrontation with Russia.

It is for them that the flag flies.

And that's the problem with torturing people: you can't ever let them go free again.

Please be careful to not be sucked into right wing fantasies, and assume they are wholly specious.

(Oh, and by the way, there was a raid on a North Vietnam prison camp during that war. The raid was a success, but the American prisoners had been removed. )

that says that Vietnam always expected reparation $$ and Nixon let them believe it would be coming after he was elected. According to the article Vietnam planned to release about 1750 POW's after they had the cash. So Nixon knew congress would never authorize the cash, so the POW's were left where they were. The article (with references) details all the evidence that they were left behind.
The cartoon appears to be promoting a comforting falsehood.

Is it supposed to be satire ? Because some of the lines in it are pure BS.

When then Senator Kerry chaired an inquiry into the latter days of the Vietnam war and the egregiously misnamed "honorable" withdrawal of american forces from that country, he asked a panel of -- I want to say 3 -- former Nixon administration people about the possibility that the Americans left behind prisoners of war who were never returned to America. They answered -- each of them! -- that, of course, yes, there were. Answered matter of factly, as if they'd been asked whether Washington, D.C. has very hot and humid summers.

I never liked Kerry after that because, given that response, he simply closed business for the day. Kerry, a combat veteran, didn't so much as shrug when he was told by 3 of Nixon's own people that, but of course, we left prisoners behind.

So, yeah, I got kind of pissed off by that cartoon.

As far as being called a "baby killer" when I returned home, no, that never happened and I don't know of anyone, personally, who suffered that kind of bullshit. But it was a feeling in the air, at the time. When I flew into New York, after being mustered out of active duty, I changed into civilian clothes as quickly as possible to avoid harsh stares (Oh, yes, those were plentiful) from students and peaceniks and others.

my cousin, a US Marine, was home on leave, arriving at the airport in full uniform, was asked by some young people if he "killed any babies in My Lai." He never served anywhere near there, but the question caught him so off guard that he was at a loss for words. When he failed to reply, these young "patriotic" Americans, began shouting ugly accusations at him about murdering babies (and getting off on it).

I hustled him out of that airport as fast as I could, but they tried to follow us. People were starting to stare. It was then that an older, fully decorated Marine Gunny stepped it. I could have hugged him.

My cousin was devastated by the behavior of these kids, who probably weren't much younger than he was. He didn't deserve that.

So, whenever I hear somebody refute that stuff like this ever happened, I wipe the floor with them.

when I was in ROTC in the late 90s, another student in the class went on and on about soldiers being baby killers.

I calmly and coolly explained that I had yet to kill anyone, much less an infant.

and because the jag-offs who did the slurring felt conscience struck when they realized what ass holes they had been. I didn't say it never happened -- Christ, I remember a kid who went into an Oakland barber shop where a young chick told him that she, like, I mean, you know, couldn't cut your hair because, well, you know, babies and all."

It was freaking stressful, like I said. Your cousin wasn't given the opportunity to get out of his uniform -- and I'm kind of glad he didn't take to wiping the floor with the assholes harassing him. Not because it would have been a crime, but because he might have gotten his uniform dirty/bloody.

I was drafted and thought, OK, let me find out for myself whether this war is as much bullshit as they say it is. I came home knowing it was bullshit. But I never participated in an anti-war protest because I didn't want to stand with ignorant slobs like the ones who harassed your cousin. I still look back on those days with a certain ambivalence, not about the war but about the movement against it which was peopled by so many ignorant, smug, self satisfied assholes.
