A milestone today.

Not a birthday, or birth or death but an end. We had our barn torn down today. It was going to fall and maybe on power lines if we did not do something. We have never used it as a barn but as a storage place for many things. It started life as a tobacco barn. The original part of our house was built in 1903 so it may have been that old. It was leaning badly, supports were broken. The cost to repair it would have been out of reach.

As hard as it was to see it fall, I felt better than just letting it fall. Have seen several do that from neglect and it is pretty sad.

But still, it has been our view up on that hill for almost 40 years. There are some beautiful trees that were behind it that are now in view. I feel like we gave it an honorable end. Things were sold out of it that were there when we bought it and some of the things we had added. Barn board was retrieved until it was no longer stable to recover them. Loads were hauled to metal recycling, loads were taken to the landfill and some were taken to the Habitat store. We did what we thought best.

But still, that old barn is gone and I shall miss it.

It's very hard to see it go. It will be a loss that will take some time to get over.

Someday you'll see those trees and they will be so beautiful that you'll feel very happy.

You've done what you needed to do and it was honorable.

It is hard to see an old friend go. I am sentimental about places, so perhaps understand a bit of your mourning.

You will miss what it was, but take some solice knowing parts of it will live on elsewhere.

"Its just an old barn on th e verge of collapse."

No, actually, it is a part of your lives. True enough, it was just a thing. But in fact, it was more.
