Tan suit kerfuffle.
I know how that tan suit kerfuffle got so out of hand. Obama was wearing a flag pin with that suit and NO ONE remembers that. Do they? That entire episode was reframed for the right's pleasure. It was a great lesson on what happens when we allow the Right to frame the issue.
And another thing. We could have turned it around by saying that it's not the tan suit that bothers them, but Obama's tan skin color! So replace the word "suit" with "skin" and you'll see what was really bothering them.
Of course, back then we weren't allowed to call out racist behavior the way we are allowed to do it now.
