Rove's Convention Briefing to 70 of the Republican Party’s Highest-Earning and Most Powerful Donors

August 31, 2012

Inside Karl Rove's Billionaire Fundraiser

____ On the final morning of the Republican National Convention, Karl Rove took the stage at the Tampa Club to provide an exclusive breakfast briefing to about 70 of the Republican party’s highest-earning and most powerful donors. During the more than hour-long session, Rove explained to an audience dotted with hedge fund billionaires and investors—including John Paulson and Wilbur Ross—how his super PAC, American Crossroads, will persuade undecided voters in crucial swing states to vote against Barack Obama. He also detailed plans for Senate and House races, and joked, “We should sink Todd Akin. If he’s found mysteriously murdered, don’t look for my whereabouts!”

Then Rove pleaded with his audience for more money—much more . . .

. . . Rove, joined by former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, laid out his strategy for winning the White House. “The people we’ve got to win in this election, by and large, voted for Barack Obama,” Rove said, in a soothing, professorial tone, explaining why the campaign hadn’t launched more pointed attacks on the president’s character.

Rove explained that Crossroads had conducted extensive focus groups and shared polling and focus group data with “all the major groups that are playing” in the election. “As many of you know, one of the most important things about Crossroads is: We don’t try and do this alone. We have partners,” he said. “The Kochs—you name it.”

. . . One of the few Romney mentions was by Haley Barbour, who jumped in to explain how Democrats hoped to define the nominee: “You know, ‘Romney is a vulture capitalist who doesn’t care about the likes of you. He doesn’t even know people like you—he’ll lay you off, cancel your insurance, shit jobs. He’s a plutocrat. Married to a known equestrian!”

Let them - and lose big.

Karl Rove should be under arrest and sent to the Hague for his war crimes as well as *, Condiliar, Rummy, and the rest of the * maladministration.

My hope is that Obama captures all swing states, plus get one or two red states, while Lurch the Fucking Stuff(tm) (thanks Aviation Pro) gets the remaining red states. of only about 150 electoral votes.

probably won't even work then, unless they cheat. And they don't care that everybody knows it. They know they will never be made accountable. Seems like most all of our elected officials have agreed to just throw our democracy into the landfill and let the worst elements fight over the scraps. No wonder so many moderate Repubs (and dedicated Dems like Feingold and Dorgan) fled for their lives from the Senate.

For some reason I still hope in the second term Obama can do something to stop it (the democracy-erasing plutocratic globalist movement) but I don't really believe anyone can. We can hold them off for awhile, but they will only get stronger. The moral drive to just only profit (which has been driving the whole republican MBA President meme) is too powerful and the pushback too weakened (deliberately) to fight back effectively. One by one the Wall Street investigations are being quietly dropped.

They may lose this year, but to them it's only a matter of time before they drown us in the bathtub. That's what they think of The People's Democracy. Kill it.

Seriously. People need to read this. Your undecided friends need to read this. The BW journalist was accidentally allowed access to this meeting, and it's a absolutely rare glimpse into the SELLING of our Democracy.

Go to the link and read the whole thing (the link takes you to page two.) Seriously... Rove is telling people that donating to Crossroads, etc. is exactly the same and as important as "donating to cancer hospitals." And they talk about their new strategy, where they've stopped doing the "he's a socialist" stuff.. in favor of "we KNOW you like Obama, and how disappointed you must be in him...." Like a creepy old friend, who is consoling you until you feel their dried up hand on the back of your neck.. and you recoil.
