Got Junk? (Has anyone used their junk-removal services?)
I've certainly got some junk! We're not hoarders... our house and cozy and tidy... but somehow, the garage and shed manages to continually collect the overflow of things we don't need, never use, but didn't have the heart to discard when we should have.
Neither my husband nor myself is fit enough to be tossing things into a rental dumpster, or loading them onto the truck for multiple trips to the county landfill.
I'm not sure what it would cost me, but I think that the recovered FLOORSPACE and SHELFSPACE may be worth it. (So that we can start NOT throwing things away again?? Probably.)
Anyway... does anyone have experience with 800 Got Junk (or any other junk removal services). Warnings? Advice? Recommendations?

(16,064 posts)Call the front office and explain what you want to get rid of. They will know which of their vendors that would be interested in it.
The vendor will come over and give you a "take all" price and haul it out.
They won't take your trash, but if it has any value, they will take it.
Don't forget to haggle...that's the fun part.
Bonus: No cost and you make a little cash. And it's not in the landfill.

(3,396 posts)Theyll take exactly what you tell them to take, and theyll do all the heavy lifting.
The downside is that it can get a little pricy. But when you consider how much of a hassle it is to load up a vehicle with junk and take it to the dump, where they likely will charge you too...it might be worth it.

(42,862 posts)That's what I'm thinking too. I don't want to do the heavy-lifting (or heavy unloading) nor make multiple trips to the landfill (where they charge if you visit too frequently, or for some types of items).
There's really nothing here that the Purple Heart thrift store would be interested in... I just want to get rid of it in one swoop rather than piecing it out or having a garage sale. (So much work for so little return.)
And, when the day comes... we will have saved our children from having to deal with it themselves.

(3,396 posts)You may be able to get a cheaper deal from another company. 1-800-GOT-JUNK pays for advertising, and they have to pass that cost on to you.
Typically they charge by the amount of junk, specifically how much of the truck they have to use. We used them when we were moving across the country and needed to clean out our garage quickly. Without that service, we would have been in trouble.

yardwork
(61,608 posts)I used a local junk removal company. They were wonderful. They took old papers, magazines, old furniture that the thrift shop refused, etc. it cost a couple hundred dollars to have them haul away hundreds of pounds of stuff. Check reviews online and pick one with good reviews in your area.

gratuitous
(82,849 posts)It had been sitting in the back yard for years and Mrs. gratuitous said, "Are we ever going to do anything with that hot tub?" We checked it out, ascertained that it was in no condition for us to rehab it, and I got online for Got Junk. That was about 11 a.m. on a recent Saturday. They had an availability at 4 p.m. that afternoon. I signed up for it. Mrs. g and I discussed a fair price and thought $200 or so would be fair. The strapping young men showed up, took a look and estimated how much of a truckload it would occupy, and quoted us $634. Mrs. g sort of balked, I said, "Sold!" Within 30 minutes, it was gone and peace prevailed on earth. Totally worth it.
One of the nice features about Got Junk is that they try to salvage or rehab what they pick up to the extent possible.

(12,376 posts)They have paid to drive the truck there and for an employee. If you refuse the offer, they have to drive the truck back, empty.

(32,704 posts)I barely get a week's enjoyment from the freed up space before someone gifts me something else. There must be some sort of universal law at work.

(42,862 posts)Books expand to fill the available shelf space... and junk expands to fill the available garage and attic space.
It's a mystery how this happens.

The rest, definitely follow the advice of other posters regarding stuff destined for the recycling yard or the landfill.
Best of luck.

(5,914 posts)We have found other local firms that charged much less.
But I haven't heard anything bad about their service.
