Was for Ron Paul before he settled on RMoney. Close friend to Ronnie Reagan. Registered Republican for decades. Was a Republican when he served as mayor. Is still a Republican.

Can't put lipstick on that pig. Anyone who would endorse a Republican neanderthal who would appoint like-minded neanderthals to the Supreme Court, just to save a few bucks in taxes that the old bastard can't take with him when he dies, anyway, is a complete and totally selfish JERK who clearly doesn't give a real shit about equality or choice. Talking the talk about those topics--which are key issues dealing with the human condition-- and then NOT walking the walk, by saying that he's enthused about a Republican who has vowed to grind those very issues into the dirt--is trying to have it both ways. It's UTTER HORSESHIT.

So fuck Clint Eastwood, and keep talking up his stupidity--because that is what it was. Not cleverness, just hubris-laden stupidity.

That explains the lines about Gitmo and Afghanistan.

I think he knew EXACTLY what he was doing up there.

Within a week he's going to show up looking totally lucid and put-together and he's going to laugh the whole thing off.

Editorial from his local paper--the "Play Ditzy For Me" is a scream:

Eastwood's film persona may have mellowed over the years, but off the screen, he has been a loyal Republican, supporting a string of GOP presidential candidates during the past half-century, including the ill-fated McCain-Palin ticket four years ago. More recently he's described himself as a "libertarian" and voiced support for Ron Paul.

both Iraq and Afghanistan:

"...I know you were against the war in Iraq, and that’s okay. But you thought the war in Afghanistan was OK. You know, I mean — you thought that was something worth doing. We didn’t check with the Russians to see how did it — they did there for 10 years. ..."

Letters From Iwo Jima one of the best anti-war statements of the last several years with the courage to show the enemy as human and understandable.

to make himself a hell of a lot of money.

His efforts last night, un-did a lot of that good imo.

He chose to speak at the convention. He chose to spout the crap he did. If completely ignored the fact that it was HIS party and the people he was advocating for who dragged this country into Afghanistan and Iraq- and tried pinning it on Pres. Obama.

I don't respect that kind of garbage- no matter whose mouth it comes out of.

and what I saw was a man getting the entire War Party to applaud against both Iraq and Afghanistan. I prefer to look at the exact words, without pre-existing prejudice against the man.

loving the hate for Obama.

That was what it was ALL about. Look at the lines where he got applause. They were the ones which attacked Obama.

I had no "pre-existing prejudice" against Clint. I actually thought he might speak some positives for Obama. Especially after his super-bowl commercial. He is a sad pathetic old man. Who I have little respect for any longer.

according to the transcript. They were applauding against both wars. Maybe they didn't realize that that's what they were doing. Of course they thought they were applauding against Obama.

I wish I had your optimism, but I don't. The applause was because here was Dirty Harry dissin Obama. Pinning every republican fuck up of the last 11+ years on HIM, and trying to look like Cool Hand Luke doing it.

Sorry- he sold his soul last night. And it was a BAD bargain.

Cali's point about him being selectively 'anti-war' is SPOT on. Romney has said he will continue the war in Afghanistan, and is anxious to use the Military in Iran. He advocates continuing to over-fund the military at the expense of programs for the most vulnerable citizens.

It's easy to say you are "anti-war" but if your actions work against that reality, your words mean little.

There was applause when Clint gestured to cut the throat of Obama too.

putting stupid words in the "chair's" mouth should be responsible for defending not only their actions, but the person they impersonated.

I'm ashamed of and for Mr. Eastwood.

He never was an idol of mine, but now I just pity him.
