Mark Shields on Trump - PBS NewsHour

Mark Shields:

I think there is a fatigue about Donald Trump. I think there is a what is he going to do next attitude, and that, you know, what is the capacity for outrage? Have we reached those limits? As far as the G7 summit, what hit me about it was, I can't get over how he continues to denigrate President Obama. I mean, that just — it's gratuitous.

And I had it explained to me by a Trump — longtime Trump watcher, who said, Trump knows that at that G7 meeting, they would rather have Obama than him — than rather have him. And so he is almost driven to make up stories about President Obama, that President Obama gave away Crimea to Putin, that — you know, it's just — it's sort of a fabricated thing. And that, to me, is bizarre.

But the other thing about it is — and Adlai Stevenson once said, better we lose an election than mislead the American people.

Donald Trump lies when he doesn't have to. On the meeting of the G7 on the environment, and he skipped it, and he said, well, my — the reason he wasn't there was that he was meeting with Ms. Merkel and the prime minister of India, both of whom were at the meeting.

So it is not — it's just being — saying things that are so easily corrected and so easily proved that he is lying. And at some point, I would just think the burden of working for someone like that becomes unbearable, just unbearable. He lies to you, as a loyal staffer. He lies to the people he is dealing with.

And, you know, at some level, in politics, your word is the coin of the realm. And he is just — he's overdrawn on that bank account.

4. But somehow all that egregious, bizarre, nearly demented lying

by the President of one party doesn't stop the m$m and the twitterverse from picking on small, innocent, nearly insignificant "gaffes" of the former Vice President of the other.

6. Interesting. He did address it concluding that lying is not the same as "embellishment"

If you keep reading:

All of Donald Trump's lies are to put him in a better light. Joe embellishes, Joe embroiders..

But I don't think the two are comparable at this point, either morally or politically.

12. I have the same feeling as you do about the creature and it makes me nuts when MSNBC

puts his picture on the TV when they talk about him. We know what the creature looks like, why do I have to stomach seeing a picture of him on TV? There is not need to show his face when people are talking about him. you want to show, on video, one of his many stupidities? OK, then we have to look at his face, but not when they are simply talking about him.

I have to think that no person has accumulated more hate than this guy, he is disliked all over the World, he is repugnant to so many people, even to many republicans who are just to coward to admit it.

redeeming human quality. He is a total waste of space. Useless, worthless and repulsive. He can brag about his education, but it is obvious THAT was a waste of time. It is impossible to educate him. No wonder the elite in NY shunned this family, they have no class, no intelligence, no admirable qualities. Just pure grifters, and it is blatant.

you are talking about the peeResident.

I don't listen to any of these fat old white men bloviating about stuff they don't know much about.

Actually, I prefer to get my information from a wide variety of sources, none T.V. or talking heads on prime-time.

11. "how he continues to denigrate President Obama" - Wrong, he indirectly denigrates himself

When people hear him trying to denigrate Obama they see how petty, how low, how miserable of a human being the creature is. All he gets in return is pity, people know, and I think he knows it too, that he will never be the man Obama is.

know. I think that he thinks he really pulled it off. That just saying it makes us believe it. He must have done this since he was 3 years old and never grew beyond that.
