Bahamas resident shelters 97 stray and sick dogs in her home as Hurricane Dorian strikes

A woman in the Bahamas has sheltered nearly 100 stray and abandoned dogs inside her home to protect them from Hurricane Dorian.

Chella Philips, manager of The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas, has given shelter to 97 dogs in New Providence.

In a viral Facebook post, Philips shared several photos and updates on the dogs as Hurricane Dorian slammed into the island.

'97 dogs are inside my house and 79 of them are inside my master bedroom. It has been insane since last night, poop and piss non stop but at least they are respecting my bed and nobody has dared to jump in,' she wrote.

The Facebook post has more than 3,100 shares and nearly 300 comments.

People who've heard about her efforts have donated crates for sick and frightened dogs.

Philips told ABC Action News that she's lost power and some water has begun leaking into her home.

Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas on Sunday and has already left the islands in destruction.

They must know that they are not "poor" dogs but are in fact very "lucky" dogs and are not only scared but also they are grateful and on their best behavior.

She doesn't sound odd at all, just like any normal person might who started inviting stray dogs in in a hurricane and ended up with...97 of them.
