A vegan woman sued her neighbors for barbecuing in their backyard: 'It's deliberate'

A vegan woman has filed a suit against her neighbors in the Australian supreme court after complaining about the smell of meat and fish emanating from their barbecues.

Cilla Carden took her case to the Supreme Court of Western Australia, citing her neighbors' barbecuing, smoking and children playing basketball, among other complaints, reported Australia's Nine.

Carden accused her neighbors of intentionally setting up these nuisances.

"It's deliberate," she told Nine. "All I can smell is fish. I can't enjoy my backyard."

Unless the food isn't processed at all, you can't tell very well by looking. For example, a steak might have been marinated with soy sauce.

I can say no to anything that obviously has gluten in it, but the problem is with all the non-gluten foods that are prepared with gluten.

My family members and close friends know how to prepare food for me now, and there are even restaurants around here that understand. (In one case the chef's wife is Celiac.)

When I travel I go to restaurants (not food courts) and am careful about what I order and how I explain it. Sometimes a chef will even come out and talk to me, and sometimes I just tell him or her my issue, and ask for suggestions. I've even had chefs prepare something delicious that's not on the menu because I gave them free rein to make whatever they wanted -- as long as it had no gluten.

But if we're staying in a place for a while, we rent a condo with a kitchen rather than stay in a hotel.

There are some borderline cases:

The Salvation Army does a lot of good feeding and housing people that really have no where to go. They seem to somehow be Affliated with Goodwill, an organization which helps really poor people by offering donated goods for cheap resale. But the Salvation Army has an outdated sexual orientation view, although I have never heard of them turning away a needy person because of sexual orientation, at least not the local one.

People don't realize that the YMCA/YWCA are religious organizations, though that should be clear by pronouncing the full names. I used to have a membership for when I was in a big city. Their administrators seem to be religious. But I have not seen cases where I could say that I noticed discrimination, they seem to serve whoever come to their facilities.

The groups with the mega-churches and leaders that have mansions and private jets, or the ones that are commenting on and attacking the rights of other members of society, are the ones that I look sideways at, and their number among evangelicals seem to be growing, not shrinking as it should be.
