Republicans argue that the spending has happened primarily in the years when Dems held the House.
I suggest you take a close look at that data before pushing this argument too hard.

you need to be prepared for their response.
Look at the data. They can make a pretty good case for that. And they also have the advantage of the Constitution, which puts financial responsibility mainly in the hands of the House.

The Big Lie: The Republican National Convention will feature a debt clock to hold the president accountable for the mounting debt.
The Truth: Republican policies and the economy they created are responsible for the vast majority of the debt and the Romney/Ryan plans would only increase the debt.
One of the most notable decorations at this years Republican National Convention is a debt clock that counts the amount of debt that will be racked up from the moment the event opened. Its supposed to be a visual indictment of the presidents policies the result of wasteful government spending.
But the GOPs debt clock would be more honest if it were captioned by the RNCs current slogan: We Built It!

Increase defense spending, tax cuts for the 1%, and do away with Social Security and Medicare.
If you thought things were bad under past Republican administrations, just think what life would be like under Romney/Ryan, especially after the draconian Ryan plan has been implemented.
