General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCan you imagine the ORWELLIAN lies that might emanate from a Romney White House?
If Romney and Ryan get away with the long list of outright lies fact checkers have identified, and "win" the election, would they suddenly start telling the truth? Or even slow the pace of their falsehoods?
Would they refrain from using their immense newfound Presidential power to retaliate against journalists who continued to expose their lies? What would limit their ability to spew untruths that would be the opposite of the reality of what they would do?
For example, would they be able to carry out their promise to cut food stamps by 40 percent, and then get the media to report they had INCREASED food stamps by 40 percent?
Such a scenario is straight out of George Orwell's '1984'. After cutting the chocolate ration from 30 grams to 20, Orwell's fictional government announced that it had INCREASED the chocolate ration from 15 grams to 20 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_hole ).
WHAT'S YOUR OPINION? How would knowing and repetitive tellers of outright BIG lies govern the US beginning next year? Would there be press conferences where no journalist would dare to disagree with huge lies?

Might we wind up with 2, 3, ... MANY Fox Newses?

(3,922 posts)Of course they lie - always have and always will. Their policies don't work, their political philosophy is bankrupt, and they seemingly proudly represent the absolute worse of those among us - ignoramuses, racists, elitists, and just plain greedy amoral people.
What is really frightening is the continuation of the destruction of the middle and lower income population.
I'm all for a multiple party system, but the republicans simply have to exposed for the damage they have wrought upon this country.
