... I read the post in the London Guardian, and if you search this idiot name, he is now well known. (Judy Lynn put it up, at this link): https://www.democraticunderground.com/10142367127
...This happened at 8:40pm yesterday evening, Sept 12, according to Judy's above post.
...A lawyer who threatens someone publicly defines the Trump crowd. You see, Trump thinks he can get away with anything, and so does Briscoe Cain. It was just a "joke" Briscoe will say, but the FBI will not be amused. He will say it was a "mistake," but when the Texas legislature removes him, them they will not be laughing. Mr. Cain has destroyed his political career and much more, with a "stupid comment." If he gets jail time, he will not like his surroundings. But that is not up to me, it is up to a judge and jury. The "Stupid Club" has a brand new member. But, I don't think Briscoe is celebrating. He is probably looking for a good criminal lawyer.

(61,695 posts)I don't believe him. I think he's just an intentional asshole.
He gets 100% ratings from these ultra-conservative groups. He represents the Baytown area.

(62,415 posts)Of course he meant it. If he is a legislator he should have some awareness that threatening someone is not legal.
A poster child for "red flag" laws BTW

(52,224 posts)it's a stupid *sshole comment, obviously, and he deserves to be booted out of office one way or another, though i doubt he'll even suffer that, at least not due to this comment.
but as for any criminal liability, my understanding is that such comments will get you investigated, but charged and prosecuted is another matter. that usually requires the stupid *sshole to have taken additional steps to make it credible that they intend to act on the threats.
idle threats alone aren't enough to get a conviction, afaik.

MAYBE going back a decade or so ago, but if this was actually something that rose to that level today there would have been dozens of other ass hat republicans run out of office over the last decade by now, beyond the handful that actually were.

(15,645 posts)controls, even for people with mental health problems. A public statement like this would qualify as a sufficient red flag to extinguish this morons right to own at least some firearms, definitely an AR-15. They (GOP legislators at the fed and state levels) dont want reasonable gun controls not just because of NRA money but so many of them obviously have mental health problems, and they might flip up and tweet or say something publicly.
