The major news outlets, particularly broadcast news (both "air" and cable) are owned by large corporations that seek viewers on all sides. Importantly, they do not want severe controversy because that would reduce the number of viewers. This is why the corporately-owned news media consistently play the "both sides" game.

Trump's taxes are a divisive issue. It baffles me as to why Republicans support his withholding them but there it is. Democrats are incensed that they haven't been released. Accordingly, the issue becomes tribal and that's why the major news media avoid it. In essence, it's old news and let's face it, it's more fun to cover Trump's BS of the day.

Regardless, I'm with you, Mr. Plissken.

that it's impossible to focus on any single corrupt act for more than a short news cycle before the next load of crap comes in.

We're living with a (mis)administration that has perfected the technique of governing by Gish Gallop. They throw out so much crap that it's impossible to focus on more than one little bit of it, as they continue to spew more, which will go unrefuted because people are still trying to cope with something else in the shitstorm they just witnessed.

Best metaphor I've seen that shows how this (mis)administration operates:

(I believe that this was recorded at tRumps last rally, but I can't be certain.)
