(19,061 posts)The Reps will not have a serious candidate. Will be a blowout.
And the Rep party will be fractured because Trump will take them down with him.
beachbumbob
(9,263 posts)the trump base will put the hate on the GOP for voting to remove trump. Unless democrats put on a terrible investigation and back off, this is a win win regardless if trump is removed.

(4,395 posts)Can you imagine him sitting quietly watching a God-bothering dweeb from a flyover state sitting in *his* chair?
And even if Pence does manage to emerge from this cesspool smelling like roses, he'll still have a Democratic House of Representatives to hold him in check.

If he wants to survive he will have to play it straight
He can't pull off the crimes Trump has gotten away with

(10,828 posts)Pence is up to his eyeballs in the Ukrainian mess. Trump, Pence and the entire team of criminals need to go. Out the door and into the courts. Needless to say, the Republican Party will crumble in their wake. Couldn't happen to a better bunch, IMHO!

(1,803 posts)He may be impeached, but the Senate will never vote to remove him so long as it is in the hands of treasonous Republicans like McConnell, who put party over politics and are willing to overlook Trumps illegal conduct if it means appointing wing nuts to the courts.
Trump will leave only after we elect a new President or win back the Senate so he can be impeached and removed.

(2,848 posts)There is no chance at this point that the Senate will vote to remove Trump. Maybe things will change as more evidence is gathered, but I wouldnt bank on it.

(1,803 posts)If Trump resigns, he will be subject to prosecution for various alleged crimes in New York and perhaps elsewhere, even if he is pardoned by Pence. His ego and narcissistic personalitY disorder likely would be an impediment as well. Nixon was far smarter and had far more class and respect for this country and its institutions (which isnt saying much).

A few points
1) Pence has 0 charisma and was unpopular in RED Indiana before being named Trump's VP. He won't fire up the Deplorable Base like Trump did.
2) Without Trump dominating the news cycle, the media will be able to pay more attention to the horrific Trump/GOP policies
3) As a WARNING - Here in my state of Connecticut, Super-Corrupt Republican John Rowland resigned in the face of impeachment. The woman that was his lieutenant governor for the previous 10 years took office and was able to get the media to believe she knew nothing about all the corruption around Rowland. (the local editorial cartoonist put her head on a Snow White costume, for example) - she won election to a full term 2 years later by a record margin because she was so popular.

(945 posts)...conjecture and speculation.
First, I doubt if Pence could come even close to galvanizing the racist cultist the way 45 days. Pence lacks charisma.
Secondly, even suggesting that Pence is going to be worse is suggesting we should keep the current pers...hum...breathing being in office, and that doesn't seem logical.
Lastly, so what if he's worse?!?!? We have a constitution and laws and a rich history of activism. We can deal with it.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,683 posts)because he'll have the stank of Trump all over him nobody will take him seriously. Since he's been wading in Trump's cesspool he'll have to be damn careful he doesn't get investigated too. I can't imagine he'd be the GOP's 2020 candidate if Trump is out.

(37,449 posts)then run...if he's exposed as a complicit party there a good chance he will be gone or unable to get enough time to run. We also know he has a campaign teams waiting in the wings. My theory is Trump will resign giving him enough time and holding out for his pardon.
