WASHINGTON In his first public remarks since a contentious departure from the White House, former national security adviser John Bolton spoke out against President Donald Trumps diplomatic gambit with North Korea.
Bolton, who began his speech by noting his new freedom to speak in unvarnished terms, said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has no intention of giving up his nuclear weapons which Trump has insisted he will as part of their one-on-one negotiations. Bolton also argued that at some point military force has to be an option.
Under current circumstances he will never give up the nuclear weapons voluntarily, he said during an appearance at a forum on U.S.-Korea policy at the Washington-based think tank Center for Strategic International Studies.
Asked later if bromance diplomacy is the best approach, he smiled and said no comment.

I feel odd to say this but I agree with Bolton that Kim will never give up his nuclear weapons.
I do not agree with using military force unless North Korea makes the first move.
If anything Bolton is in part to blame for their stance. Iraq gave up its weapons of mass destruction and was still invaded.
Iran backed away from nuclear development and found sanctions reimposed by the Trump administration at Bolton's encouragement.
Why would North Korea give up their weapons in light of that?

(14,961 posts)The worst dictator in the world of course he wants to protect his piece of the world. I think at this point we should be more worried about our own lunatic with nukes. Kim Jong Un knows if he were to launch a nuke he would be finished at this point I trust him more.

(22,093 posts)totally out of left field. Rump has fell for this corrupt and bankrupt regime (and other corrupt regimes) because he 'admires' the dictatorships and rues the power of the voter. Just wait until the 2020 elections get closer and closer...I suspect rump will try a fast and dirty trick to try the get the 2020 elections (in which he'll get his a&& stomped) nullified or postponed for some national security reason(s) of his own rationale. One thing though, Congress saw his illegal attempts in declaring a national emergency on the southern border and disallowed it.
This is a good thing, that at least on a couple of things, Congress is still attempting to assert their proper role. The (Congress) still has a ways to go.

(4,066 posts)Every regime which has given up their nuclear weapons has been toppled by the US and its allies. Just ask Saddam Hussein or Qaddafi. Oh, right, we invaded their countries and killed them after the gave up their nukes and other WMDs.
Nope, if I were Kim Jong Un, I'd keep the nuke test program going.
