Missing votes from one of Iowa's caucus precincts and a top official who had retired to bed delayed Mitt Romney's wafer-thin victory in the early hours of yesterday.

At 1.15am, with almost every vote counted, Rick Santorum was judged to be narrowly ahead. But the 143 votes of the second precinct of the second ward of Clinton County were nowhere to be seen.
Reports that "a man in a truck" was still driving the missing ballots to a counting station were repeated live on several national television networks, before being denied by Republican officials.
As confusion reigned in campaign headquarters and in television studios, a behind-the-scenes search was underway for Edith Pfeffer, the Clinton Republican chairman who had gone to bed without a phone.
SNIP...
She eventually confirmed 51 more votes for Mr Romney and 33 for Mr Santorum.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, seeing how it's become illegal to criticize government officials.

(45,001 posts)There are a lot really bad people on the Romney team...
specifically really bad Bush people and you know what kind of shenanigans that means.
For example, Ben Ginsberg, the same creepy lawyer who represented Bush in his recount
has been conveniently popping up all over the place representing Romney.
There's gonna be some sick shit going down.

(55,745 posts)Ginsberg also is expert at post-census redistricting, apparently to the benefit of the GOP.

I wonder if he's chums with Cass Sunstein and Phil Zelikow? Washington really is a small town.

Short version is that he's been involved in recounts from Bush 2000 to Norm Coleman to Judge Prosser in Wisconsin.
He was the lawyer for the Swift Boat Veterans in 2004.
Back in the 90's, he was representing several secretive trusts that seemed to have been designed to money-launder Koch brothers contributions to the Republican National Committee.
And I'm sure there are a couple more that I've forgotten.

Wish they'd both read more about the GOP's real leaders.

(101,311 posts)They don't directly determine convention delegates, and the eventual delegates are not bound to vote for any candidate anyway. As people have said, it's a glorified straw poll that gives a snapshot of Iowan support for the candidates, that's all.

(25,183 posts)that Mittens was the "winner", no matter how many of these simple paper ballots they had to fake in the middle of the night. Even Rush Limpballs knows that, out of curiousity, I caught his radio show the day after the caucuses.
Finally, he and I agree on something...
