It seems they are taking away jobs before we can even serve the unemployed.

I think that this technology can save lives, once mature.
Imagine that you drive downtown, hit the bars, get yourself likkored up, and then when the bars close, you're confronted with the problem of getting yourself home safely even though you've got a buzz that indicates you're not cool behind the wheel. Sure you could call a cab, but maybe you're broke...
If you could just go to your car and say "Computer, drive me home", there's thousands of lives saved right there. Computers don't get drunk, they don't get tired, they don't lose their shit and get road rage, that computer would be able to drive you home safely and reliably.

(62,444 posts)Modern passenger aircraft can pretty much fly itself, including takeoff and landing.
But we tend not to put lives of passengers into the hands of machines.
Similar deal with trains.
Cab and limo drivers do a LOT more than get people from A to B.

(25,415 posts)Anyone ever see the NCIS episode called Driven about a smart car that killed someone? It almost kills Abby!
Seriously, it probably would work out okay. It only freaks me out slightly.
